Nintendo’s October online event is officially called the Mario Kart World Open October 2026, not “October Knockout.” It runs from October 17 to 18, 2026. To enter, open Online Play in Mario Kart World, press the minus button, and search for event ID 4450. You’ll need a Nintendo Switch 2, the game, a Nintendo Account, internet access, and a Nintendo Switch Online membership.
When does the Mario Kart World Open start and end?
The event runs from October 17, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. Pacific Time through October 18, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. Pacific Time. It is a weekend event, not a one-day competition. Nintendo’s October 8 announcement and the official event listing give the schedule.
How do I enter the October 2026 event?
- Start Mario Kart World and choose Online Play.
- Press the minus (−) button to search for an event.
- Enter event ID 4450 and join during the event window.
Playing in the event during that window is the stated entry method; Nintendo does not describe a separate registration step. The event is a qualifier for the Mario Kart World Fall Cup 2026, scheduled for December. The Fall Cup is limited to eligible players in North America; its official rules set out the tournament terms.

Nintendo lists these requirements:
- A Nintendo Switch 2 system and Mario Kart World.
- A Nintendo Account.
- An internet connection and Nintendo Switch Online membership. The membership is sold separately; Nintendo mentions a free seven-day trial subject to terms and availability.
- A consistent, reliable high-speed internet connection, as required by the Fall Cup rules.
Nintendo’s announcement lists Mario Kart World at a regular price of $79.99; that is Nintendo of America’s listed price in its October 8, 2026 announcement, not a current marketplace offer. If you already have the game and system, you do not need to buy them again for this event.

Who can qualify for the Fall Cup?
The official Fall Cup rules require legal residence in the United States (including Washington, D.C.), Canada, or Mexico, and participants must be in one of those territories while taking part. The minimum age is 13 in the United States and Canada and 18 in Mexico. Nintendo’s announcement says participants from North and South American regions can earn points, but that wording does not broaden the Fall Cup’s eligibility beyond the territories in its rules.

Nintendo lists the event as a VS Race with the following settings:

Under the Fall Cup rules, each player may complete up to 32 races during this October qualifier.
What does participating earn?
Eligible participants in the North and South American regions can receive 50 My Nintendo Platinum Points for participating. Nintendo says the points should be ready to claim on the Missions page on or about October 27, 2026, Pacific Time. These are participation points, not the Fall Cup championship prize.
