To configure typing features in Windows 11, open Settings > Time & language > Typing. Enable Show text suggestions when typing on the physical keyboard for word predictions, and turn on Autocorrect misspelled words separately if you want Windows to correct spelling as you type.
Open Windows 11 typing settings
- Open Settings with Windows key + I, or select Settings from Start.
- Select Time & language, then Typing.
- Find the typing controls on that page. Microsoft documents these controls in its Windows text-suggestions instructions and Settings Catalog.
Enable predictions for a physical keyboard
Turn on Show text suggestions when typing on the physical keyboard. Windows can then display candidate words above the cursor as you type. Suggestions are based on your spelling; Microsoft says they become more accurate as you enter more letters.
When suggestions appear, select one with the mouse or touch where supported, or use the arrow keys to move through the choices and press Enter to insert one. Press Esc to dismiss the suggestions. Try the setting in a message, document, or browser comment field; support in one text-entry app does not establish that it will work in every app.

Text suggestions offer candidate words for you to choose. Autocorrect misspelled words is a distinct setting listed separately in Microsoft’s Settings Catalog. Enabling predictions does not, by itself, enable autocorrection.

In Settings > Time & language > Typing, locate Autocorrect misspelled words and switch it on if you want Windows to correct misspellings. You can also enable Highlight misspelled words if you prefer a visible spelling cue. These are separate options, so choose the behavior you want.
Configure suggestions for multiple languages
Turn on Multilingual text suggestions to receive suggestions across multiple languages. If the language or keyboard layout you need is missing, open Settings > Time & language > Language & region and add or configure it there. Microsoft’s guidance covers language and keyboard-layout management in Manage the language and keyboard/input layout settings in Windows; language-pack details are available in Language packs for Windows.

If a setting or suggestion is missing
- For physical-keyboard predictions, check that Show text suggestions when typing on the physical keyboard is enabled.
- Test in another text-entry app, such as a chat, document, or browser comment field. Microsoft’s examples are not a guarantee of support in every application.
- For multilingual typing, confirm that the multilingual switch is enabled and that the required language and input layout are configured under Language & region.
- If the control is absent or has a different label, Windows build variation is one possibility; Microsoft’s instructions do not identify which Windows 11 release first used these labels.
