RPM Fusion setup depends on your exact Linux distribution and release. On Fedora, RPM Fusion publishes separate release-configuration packages for its Free and Nonfree channels; do not assume those Fedora packages or instructions apply to CentOS or RHEL. Use RPM Fusion’s current configuration page for your installed distribution and release, then verify the repositories it tells you to enable.
Identify your distribution and release first
Before choosing a repository package or following setup steps, identify whether the system is Fedora, CentOS, or RHEL and note its release. RPM Fusion’s Fedora directories list release-specific packages, including entries for Fedora 44, 45, and 46, as well as stable, branched, and rawhide variants. These were the files listed on September 30, 2026; a listing confirms that a file was present, not that a release is supported or that a particular package track is right for your system.
Use the matching release instructions on RPM Fusion’s configuration page. Its current instructions should determine the exact package, commands, prerequisites, and any release-specific conditions. The page could not be retrieved on September 30, 2026, so current copy-and-run commands and CentOS/RHEL compatibility details are not established here. Do not substitute Fedora instructions for CentOS or RHEL.

Choose the RPM Fusion channel and package track
Free and Nonfree are separate channels
RPM Fusion provides distinct Free and Nonfree channels. Its Fedora directory listings contain separate release RPMs for each: Free Fedora packages and Nonfree Fedora packages. The files in those directories are Fedora-specific; they are not evidence of equivalent CentOS or RHEL packages. The material available here does not establish which channel contains a particular application, so follow RPM Fusion’s current guidance for the software you want.

Stable, branched, and rawhide
The Fedora listings also show stable, branched, and rawhide variants. Select a track only when RPM Fusion’s current instructions say it matches your release and needs. A package appearing in a directory does not by itself establish its support status or suitability.
What the release package does
The release RPM configures repositories; it is not a replacement for the package manager. Historical RPM Fusion metadata for an older Fedora package describes the release package as containing a GPG key and package-manager configuration files. That description is useful for understanding its general role, but it is old package information—not current security guidance or a statement of present-day contents.

Follow only the package selection and commands shown for that distribution and release. Choose Free, Nonfree, or both according to the current guidance for your goal; do not infer channel contents from the directory names.

Use the verification method documented there to check that the intended RPM Fusion repositories are visible and enabled in your package manager. Confirm that the result matches the channel or channels you chose.

Fedora, CentOS, and RHEL are not interchangeable here
The Fedora release directories establish that Fedora release RPMs are listed, but they do not establish current CentOS or RHEL support, compatible releases, or setup commands for those systems. For either CentOS or RHEL, proceed only if RPM Fusion’s current configuration page provides instructions for your exact distribution and release. If it does not, do not install a Fedora release RPM as a workaround.
