To enable Assist Mode in CONTROL Resonant, pause the game and open Options → Gameplay → Assist Mode. Turn it on, choose a preset as a starting point if you like, then adjust individual settings and return to gameplay. You can change the mode during a playthrough, and Remedy says using it does not disable trophies or achievements.

Select a preset if you want a ready-made starting point, then adjust the individual settings to suit your needs.

Leave Options to resume gameplay.

The named presets are Custom, Field Agent, Strategist, and Ranger. A preset gives you a starting configuration; you can then change individual parameters. Remedy’s Help Center confirms this workflow, but does not publish a setting-by-setting recipe for each preset. Choose one and inspect its effects in the current game menu rather than assuming a particular preset is easiest or hardest. NerdsChalk’s walkthrough also lists the preset names.

Adjust the setting that addresses your difficulty
Assist Mode is a collection of combat adjustments, not a single overall difficulty setting. Remedy describes options that can reduce friction or, in some cases, increase the challenge. Use the menu descriptions to target the obstacle you are encountering:

| Incoming Damage | How much damage Dylan receives. | Lower it to make incoming attacks less punishing, or raise it for a tougher fight. |
| Outgoing Damage | How much damage Dylan deals. | Increase it if fights are taking too long; decrease it for a greater combat challenge. |
| Outgoing Falter | How quickly Dylan breaks an enemy’s posture. | Adjust it if building enemy Falter is a barrier, or if you want posture breaks to take longer. |
| Power Recovery Speed | How quickly Dylan’s power recovers. | Increase it if you want to use powers more often; reduce it for less frequent recovery. |
| Enhanced Melee Magnetizing | How much assistance Dylan gets with positioning during melee attacks. | Try it if connecting with melee attacks or positioning is difficult. |
| Immortality | Prevents Dylan from being defeated. | Use this high-assistance option if staying alive is the main barrier. |
| One-Hit Kills | Defeats enemies with a single hit. | Use it to bypass ordinary enemy durability. |
| One-Hit Falters | Breaks an enemy’s posture with a single hit. | Use it if building posture damage is the obstacle. |
The official Help Center lists these effects but does not provide numeric ranges or default values for them. Remedy’s developer announcement explains the intent: adjust the specific things that are getting in your way rather than choosing an overall difficulty that changes the whole game. It also notes that Assist Mode can be configured for more challenge, such as by increasing Enemy Aggression or Incoming Damage and reducing the Perfect Dodge Window. Assist Mode does not remap controls
Assist Mode changes gameplay and combat behavior; it is not the place to remap buttons. For input remapping and options such as mouse or controller sensitivity, inversion, controller stick swapping, adaptive triggers, and haptics, open Options → Controls. Remedy’s Help Center distinguishes Controls settings from the Gameplay menu where Assist Mode appears.
Version-specific option in update 1.4.0
Remedy’s official update 1.4.0 announcement, dated October 1, 2026, says the patch added Power Core Charge Duration to Assist Mode, with a 100–300% duration multiplier. The Help Center’s listed options do not include this setting, so the list above is not guaranteed to match every game version. Check the current in-game Assist Mode menu for the options available in your build.

Combat balance has also changed since launch: Remedy’s hotfix 1.3.3 announcement says it reduced base health and required Falter level for most enemies and certain bosses, and increased maximum Aberrant and Ability Strength. These changes can affect how combat feels alongside your Assist Mode choices. Both update notes are in Remedy’s official CONTROL Resonant announcements.
