To embed a Google Sheet in WordPress, publish the spreadsheet (or a specific sheet) from Google Sheets, copy the HTML Google generates, and add it to your page or post with a Custom HTML block. Preview the result before publishing. Check the sharing settings first: publishing can make the spreadsheet visible to a wider audience than its existing collaborators.
Publish the Google Sheet and copy its embed code
-
Open the spreadsheet in Google Sheets and select File > Share > Publish to web.
-
Choose whether to publish the entire spreadsheet or an individual sheet. Select a format if one is offered.

Review what will be visible, then publish. In the publishing dialog, select Embed, publish if prompted, and copy the HTML Google provides.
Google’s publishing instructions describe the available publishing and embed controls. Use the generated code rather than guessing or hand-building iframe syntax.
Add the embed to a WordPress page or post
-
Open the page or post in the WordPress editor.
-
Add a Custom HTML block where the spreadsheet should appear.
-
Paste Google’s copied iframe HTML into the block.

Preview the page to check that the sheet appears as intended, then publish or update the WordPress page.
WordPress.com’s Google Docs and Sheets guide also directs users to use a Custom HTML block for embed code.
Choose what visitors can see
Publishing is not the same as sharing a spreadsheet privately with selected collaborators. Depending on account settings, a published file may be visible to everyone on the web, everyone in an organization, or a group within an organization. Check the publishing visibility and content before you make the embed live; do not publish sensitive information unintentionally.

You can publish the whole spreadsheet or a selected sheet, and Google documents controls for limiting what appears. The generated embed can also include parameters such as gid for the sheet, range for the cell range, widget for sheet tabs, headers for row numbers and column letters, and chrome for the title and footer. Verify the copied HTML and Google’s current settings rather than relying on guessed parameter values.
Google says edits to the original are reflected in the published version, but an update can take a few minutes. If you no longer want the spreadsheet published, return to its publishing controls and stop publishing.
Use the right WordPress embedding method
| Method | What to do | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Custom HTML block | Paste the iframe HTML generated by Google Sheets. | WordPress may remove iframe markup if the user does not have the capability required to use unfiltered HTML. See WordPress.org’s Custom HTML documentation. |
| Embed block | Paste a third-party URL into WordPress’s Embed block. | The block works with supported providers; WordPress documentation does not establish that a Google Sheets URL will be recognized and embedded. See WordPress.org’s Embed block guide. |
For the documented Google Sheets workflow, use the generated iframe code in a Custom HTML block. WordPress’s Embed block documentation describes embeds from supported third-party providers, but a pasted Sheets URL is not a guaranteed substitute for Google’s embed HTML.

-
The iframe disappears after saving: Check the editor user’s role and site permissions. WordPress can sanitize Custom HTML and remove disallowed tags, including iframes.
-
The Custom HTML option is unavailable: On a WordPress.com site, check whether the site’s plan permits the relevant embedding workflow. WordPress.com’s guide lists Personal, Premium, Business, and Commerce plans and says free sites must upgrade; plan terms can change, so confirm current eligibility before changing plans.

The Embed block does not render the sheet: Use Google’s generated HTML in a Custom HTML block if your plan and permissions allow it.
-
The embed shows the wrong sheet or too much content: Revisit Google’s publishing selection and the iframe code, then preview the WordPress page again.
WordPress.com plan details are in its Google Docs and Sheets support guide; iframe sanitization is covered in WordPress.org’s Custom HTML documentation.
