OpenClaw can help edit WordPress posts when you connect it to a compatible WordPress integration or skill. The WordPress API Pro skill listed on ClawHub describes reading, drafting, creating and updating content through the WordPress REST API, but it is a community integration—not a built-in OpenClaw WordPress feature. Start with a dedicated WordPress account, make changes as drafts, and review them in WordPress before publishing.
What you need before connecting OpenClaw to WordPress
- An OpenClaw installation with a compatible skill or custom REST API integration. OpenClaw supports extensions through plugins and skills; see its plugin documentation.
- A WordPress site with REST API access and an account whose role permits the actions you want the agent to take.
- Credentials for remote API access. WordPress documents Application Passwords for HTTPS requests; its handbook says they have shipped with WordPress since version 5.6. See WordPress REST API authentication.
The exact features available depend on the integration, the site’s installed plugins, permissions and which custom fields are exposed through the API.

There is no source-backed benchmark establishing one path as faster or better overall. OpenClaw’s plugin guidance recommends reviewing trust and source details, considering pinned versions for reproducible production use, and verifying at runtime that a tool is actually loaded. An install message alone does not confirm that the active Gateway is using the expected integration.

- Install it using the listing’s command, then inspect OpenClaw’s runtime to confirm the skill is available to the active agent and Gateway.
- Verify that a read operation works before allowing any write operation. Use a non-production site if you need to test behavior.
That command applies to this particular listing; it is not a universal OpenClaw command for every WordPress integration.
Set up WordPress credentials safely
- In WordPress, create a dedicated user and assign only a role with the capabilities needed for the editing tasks. Avoid using an administrator account when narrower permissions will do.
- For HTTPS REST requests, create an Application Password from the user’s edit page in WordPress. The WordPress handbook identifies the path as
wp-admin → Users → Edit User; details are in its authentication documentation. - Provide the integration with the site’s URL and credentials using its supported protected configuration. The cited skill names
WP_URL,WP_USERNAMEandWP_APP_PASSWORDas environment variables for its scripts. - Keep production credentials out of source control and repositories. Use protected local configuration or an appropriate secrets manager, and follow the integration’s instructions for securing secrets.
WordPress also describes cookie authentication for requests made within WordPress while a user is logged in and has the relevant capability. For a remote application, its handbook documents Application Passwords over HTTPS. It cautions that generic Basic Authentication plugins using an account’s main password are for development and testing, with Application Passwords preferred.
Use OpenClaw to edit a post without publishing it
WordPress post records can include a title, content, excerpt, status, categories, tags and featured media. The posts API supports retrieving records and creating or updating them; its documented statuses include draft, pending, publish, future and private. A REST-based editing workflow can work with these fields when the integration and account have the necessary access.
- Identify the target. Ask OpenClaw to retrieve the specific post and confirm the site and post ID before changing anything.
- Set the scope. Specify which fields it may edit—such as title, body or excerpt—and whether categories, tags, metadata or media are in scope. Ask it not to change other fields.
- Request a draft. Have the integration create or update the post with status set to
draft, rather than publishing it. - Review the WordPress draft. Open the target post in WordPress and check the rendered formatting, links, images, excerpt, metadata and target record. Judge factual accuracy and editorial quality yourself; API support does not establish either.
- Approve any live change explicitly. Before a write to a live post or publication, confirm the target site, post ID, fields and final action. The cited skill’s own guidance calls for explicit approval before live writes; this is a safeguard specified by the skill author, not a WordPress core rule.
- Verify the result. Retrieve the post again through the integration or inspect it in WordPress, confirming the intended fields and status.
What the integration may—and may not—be able to edit
The official posts API provides standard post fields and query options, including filters such as search, status, date, author, category and tag. The community skill advertises broader operations for pages, media, WooCommerce products, Elementor content, SEO metadata, ACF and JetEngine. Those advertised capabilities do not guarantee that every site exposes the same data: plugin versions, configuration, API exposure and account permissions can affect what the integration can read or change.

For batch edits, the cited skill says its batch mode defaults to a dry run and requires an explicit execution step after review. Treat that as a feature of the skill, not a general property of OpenClaw or WordPress; inspect the specific integration’s behavior before relying on it.

Common problems and checks
- The skill appears installed, but the agent cannot use it: Check OpenClaw’s runtime and active Gateway to confirm the capability is loaded, then test an actual read or tool call.
- A request is denied: Confirm the credentials are valid, the request uses HTTPS and the WordPress user’s role grants the required capability.
- A plugin field is missing or unchanged: Check whether the field is exposed through the site’s REST API and supported by the integration; the field may require plugin-specific configuration.
- The wrong content was changed: Stop further writes, verify the site and post ID, and inspect the record in WordPress. Confirm the integration’s available recovery options before attempting another update.
- A draft looks different from the requested edit: Compare the rendered post against the requested field scope and inspect links, formatting and media directly in WordPress before approving publication.
