To edit Spatial Audio in an eligible video, open it in Photos, tap Edit, choose Audio Mix, select a mix, adjust its intensity, then tap Done. Audio Mix works with eligible Spatial Audio recordings—not simply any video saved on a supported iPhone.
Check that your video is eligible
Apple describes Audio Mix as a way to change the sound after recording video with Spatial Audio. Its guidance does not say that a video recorded in Stereo or Mono gains the same recording data through editing.
Apple lists iPhone 16 and iPhone 17 models and iPhone Air as supporting Spatial Audio recording. However, its device-specific guidance for Audio Mix excludes iPhone 16e footage. In other words, do not assume that every model with “iPhone 16” in its name supports this edit. Apple’s iPad user guide describes the iPhone 16e exception.

If Audio Mix is missing, first check both the phone model and how the clip was recorded. Apple’s video editing guidance says the feature applies to video captured with Spatial Audio on supported iPhone models.

Apply Audio Mix in Photos
- Open Photos and select the eligible video.
- Tap Edit.
- Tap Audio Mix.
- Choose a mix, then move the intensity slider to adjust its effect.
- Preview the result and tap Done to save the adjustment.
The slider controls the intensity of the mix effect and background-noise levels. Apple does not publish a measured noise-removal rate or guarantee that a setting will isolate a voice or eliminate every unwanted sound.
Choose the mix that fits the recording

| In-Frame | Reduces sounds and voices from sources outside the video frame. | When off-camera voices or sounds distract from what is shown. |
| Studio | Reduces background sounds and reverb for a sound more like a professional studio recording. | When background noise or room echo is the main concern. |
| Cinematic | Places voices on a front-facing track while environmental sounds remain in surround, similar to film audio. | When you want voices to stand out while retaining spatial ambience. |
There is no universally best option in Apple’s guidance. Listen to the preview and adjust the slider for the particular recording.

Set up Spatial Audio for future videos
On a supported iPhone, open Settings > Camera > Record Sound and select Spatial Audio. Apple also lists Stereo and Mono as recording options. Spatial Audio is the default for video on iPhone 16 models or later, but checking the setting can help confirm how a future clip will be captured.
