This guide takes “one of the world’s coolest neighbourhoods” to mean Jongno 3-ga in Seoul: Time Out ranked it No. 1 in its 2026 list. The best way to explore its food and drink is to experience two nearby but distinct settings: the casual tent-stall scene around Jongno 3-ga after dark, and the cafés, eateries, and craft-beer stop in Ikseon-dong’s hanok lanes.
Why Jongno 3-ga made the list
Time Out’s 2026 editorial ranking placed Jongno 3-ga first among 40 neighbourhoods. Its editors say local experts nominated places, which were then assessed for dining, nightlife, unique local businesses, liveability, and community. It is a curated ranking, not an objective score or a guarantee that every visitor will enjoy every venue. Time Out’s 2026 list and Korea.net’s report both identify Jongno 3-ga as the winner.
Choose between two food-and-drink moods
| Experience | Setting and feel | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| Pojangmacha tent stalls | Informal, tent-style street-food kiosks around Jongno 3-ga. Korea.net describes them as affordable and unpretentious. | An evening out focused on casual street food and drinks. |
| Ikseon-dong lanes | Narrow hanok lanes with cafés, eateries, and a craft-beer venue, as featured in the Official Travel Guide to Seoul. | A more planned café-and-meal outing, with a possible craft-beer stop. |
| Seosulla-gil | A nearby lane with craft workshops, jewelry studios, and wine bars, according to Korea.net. | A quieter change of pace or a drinks-focused wander. |
These are broad area-level contrasts, not descriptions of every business. Korea.net’s overview of Jongno 3-ga and Seosulla-gil does not establish particular stall menus, prices, hours, or individual wine-bar details.

Follow Seoul’s suggested Ikseon-dong food route
The Official Travel Guide to Seoul starts its Ikseon-dong course at Jongno-3-ga Station Exit 4 and lists this sequence:
- Start at Changhwadang. It is the first stop in the guide’s listed course.
- Continue to Dongbaek Bakery. The guide highlights a strawberry soufflé pancake, drip coffee, and tea.
- Pass Uncle Video Town. It appears as the next stop in the official sequence.
- Finish at ARTMONSTER. The guide describes a craft-beer venue with a hanok atmosphere and chicken and pizza sides.
The course is useful as an orientation, not a promise that each stop will suit every appetite or remain open on a particular day. The Official Travel Guide to Seoul’s Ikseon-dong guide was edited on July 16, 2026, and warns that information may change. Check current operation, opening hours, menus, and last orders before setting out. The same guide gives its access directions and venue details; Seoul’s 2026 English tourist guidebook also places Ikseon-dong in Jongno-gu near Jongno 3-ga Station.
Try Jongno 3-ga’s tent stalls after dark
Pojangmacha are tent-style street-food kiosks, a defining evening option in the area. Korea.net says their affordable prices and unpretentious atmosphere attract younger people today. For another evening-oriented overview, the Official Travel Guide to Seoul includes Jongno 3-ga pocha street among its Seoul after-dark suggestions.
Rank #2
Approach this as an informal street-food experience rather than a pre-planned restaurant booking: the available descriptions do not establish specific stall names, menus, prices, opening hours, or seating arrangements. If you need a particular dish or schedule, confirm details locally rather than assuming every stall offers the same options.

Swap the busy feel for Seosulla-gil
If you want a less street-stall-focused stop, Korea.net points to Seosulla-gil for craft workshops, jewelry studios, and wine bars. It offers a different way to spend time nearby, but the source does not identify a particular bar or confirm its current hours. Treat it as an area to explore rather than a guaranteed reservation-ready recommendation.
Rank #3
Plan around the lane, not an assumed timetable
- For Ikseon-dong, orient from Exit 4. Seoul’s official course uses Jongno-3-ga Station Exit 4 as its starting point; it does not establish a walking time for the full route.
- Check venue details close to your visit. The Seoul guide’s July 16, 2026 edit date and change notice make a fresh check prudent, particularly for opening hours and menus.
- Keep the two areas distinct. Ikseon-dong’s hanok lanes and the evening pocha scene around Jongno 3-ga are nearby parts of an outing, not one interchangeable setting.
The Official Travel Guide to Seoul sums up Ikseon-dong this way: “This alley where Korea’s past and present co-exist is well worth the visit.”
