In Uncharted Waters Origin, trade is the official guide’s recommended way to earn Ducats, while building ships raises Build LV and unlocks blueprints. To upgrade a fleet, you also need the right ship materials, which can come from shops, tasks, combat, rewards, and guild systems. Choose what to pursue based on the ship’s role and the waters it needs to navigate; no single route or upgrade is best for every fleet.
Earn Ducats by trading between ports
Ducats are the everyday currency the beginner guide identifies for basic transactions such as building ships and buying ship parts. Its recommended loop is to buy goods cheaply in one port and sell them where demand or prices are higher. The Uncharted Waters Origin Game Guide calls trade “the quickest, and surest way to earn Ducats.” It does not give a guaranteed route, profit rate, or minimum starting capital, so treat each run as a price comparison rather than a fixed-income method.
Keep the game’s currencies distinct. Ducats cover ordinary transactions; Blue Gems are used for ship modification, while Red Gems or Shipbuilding Acceleration can shorten construction time. Guild Currency is earned through guild participation and spent in the Contribution Shop. These systems address different needs, so check the cost shown for the action you intend to take.
Build ships to raise Build LV and unlock blueprints
Shipbuilding advances Build LV, and higher Build LV unlocks additional blueprints. A blueprint is not a substitute for materials: each build requires both the applicable blueprint and its materials, as well as Ducats. Higher-grade ships call for rarer materials. The beginner guide to using ships also notes that a build takes time and can be expedited with Shipbuilding Acceleration or Red Gems.

Check the ship, blueprint, and material requirements before starting construction. Canceling a ship that is in progress does not refund its materials or Ducats, according to the guide. Starting a build is therefore a resource commitment, not a safe way to reserve materials temporarily.
Find ship materials through several routes
Material availability varies by item and current game state; the official guides list source categories, not a guarantee that every material drops from every activity. Check the ship’s requirements, then look across these routes:
Rank #2
- Shipyard Parts Shop: Some ship materials are available for purchase.
- Daily Tasks and combat: Materials may be earned from Daily Tasks or obtained as combat loot.
- Adventure, tasks, and rewards: The fleet growth guide lists Adventure, Task, Event, and Palace rewards as possible material sources.
- Black Market: The Item Shop’s Black Market may occasionally offer rare materials; stock and availability can vary.
- Dismantling ships: The Shipyard guide says unwanted ships can be dismantled for spare materials. The guide does not quantify yields, so compare the ship’s usefulness to your fleet against the materials returned rather than assuming dismantling is always worthwhile.
For event-related drops or time-limited goods, consult current in-game notices. LINE Games’ September 26, 2025 announcement confirms that seasonal events and trade goods can change opportunities, but it does not establish which event is currently active.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsUse guild systems as a parallel resource path
Guild participation can provide both Guild Currency and access to Guild Crafting. According to the official guild systems guide, reaching Guild Contribution thresholds awards Guild Currency. The Contribution Shop can exchange it for ship blueprints and crafting materials; purchases have limits, and the listed stock refreshes weekly. Check the shop in game for its current items and limits.

Contribution can come from activities including city investment, requests, and combining equipment or parts. Point requirements and limits are subject to the in-game guide and may change. Guild Crafting provides ship parts, mate gear, and tools. It requires request letters and essential materials such as processed iron, processed lumber, and ore. The guide says these materials may be bought in the Contribution Shop, earned as Palace rewards, or obtained through combat against a powerful opponent. This is an additional route for players with guild access, not a prerequisite for every beginner.
Choose ships and upgrades for their job and route
Ships specialize in Adventure, Trade, or Combat. The official ship guide describes different strengths within the same grade:
Rank #4
- Play as Nathan Drake across a trilogy of thrilling, white-knuckle adventures. Experience Drake's relationships with those closest to him, as he struggles to balance adventure and family
- Brand-new trophies created exclusively for UNCHARTED's debut on the PS4 system
- Freeze gameplay at any time and take control of the camera to capture your most memorable moments from the trilogy to share with friends directly from your PS4 system. Utilize graphical filters, camera controls, and other options to customize your shot
| Ship specialization | What the guide says it favors | Useful when considering |
|---|---|---|
| Adventure | Tends to be faster than same-grade alternatives. | Speed and the navigation stats required for the intended waters. |
| Trade | Has higher load capacity. | Carrying more trade goods on a buying-and-selling route. |
| Combat | Can carry more crew and has strong artillery and ramming capabilities. | Crew capacity and combat needs. |
Some waters require navigation stats such as Ice Breaking, Seaworthiness, and Momentum. Before committing Ducats and materials to a ship, compare its specialization with the route’s requirements and the job you need the ship to perform. Blueprint access and material cost also affect how practical a choice is for your current fleet.

Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Understand modification versus equipped Parts
Modify and equipping Parts are separate ways to improve a ship. Modification raises three randomly selected base stats and consumes the ship’s Blueprint or a Common Blueprint plus Blue Gems. The growth guide sets a maximum of five modifications per ship and says costs vary by ship. Because the stats selected are random, modification does not let you choose exactly which three base stats rise.

Quick Recap
A practical order for spending resources
- Set the ship’s job and route. Decide whether you need Adventure speed, Trade capacity, or Combat capability, and identify any route requirement such as Ice Breaking, Seaworthiness, or Momentum.
- Check the blueprint and build costs. Confirm Build LV access, required materials, and Ducats before beginning construction; remember that canceling does not refund those costs.
- Earn Ducats through trade. Compare prices between ports and sell where goods command a better price; do not count on a fixed profit per run.
- Search for the specific missing materials. Check the Shipyard Parts Shop, relevant tasks and rewards, combat loot, and Black Market stock. Consider guild shop or crafting options if you have guild access.
- Improve the finished ship with the appropriate method. Use modification if you accept its random stat increases and Blue Gem cost; use equipped Parts as an equipment-based route to improve stats.
