On a Samsung phone, download eligible videos for offline playback using the Download control in the YouTube app. Sign in, open the video, tap Download, then find it later in You or your profile’s Downloads area. Availability depends on your location, the video, and whether YouTube Premium is required.
Download a video in the YouTube app
- Open the YouTube app and sign in. If the video requires Premium, use the account with an active YouTube Premium membership.
- Open the video’s watch page and tap Download below the video. Depending on your location, the control may be under More.
- Wait for YouTube to indicate that the download is complete.
- To watch it offline, open the You area or your profile and select Downloads. The exact navigation wording can vary by app version.
YouTube’s Android Premium download instructions and mobile download guidance for select locations describe these app-based steps. Downloads stay in YouTube’s app-managed Downloads area; they are not regular video files you can browse or transfer with your Google account.
Check whether a video can be downloaded
Download availability is not universal. In select locations, some videos can be downloaded in the mobile app without Premium; other videos require Premium, and some are not available for offline playback. Where YouTube Premium is available, signed-in members can download eligible videos on Android. The Download control and any Premium prompt shown on the video are the practical indicators for your account and location.
Choose download quality and avoid mobile-data downloads
In the YouTube app, go to Settings > Background & downloads > Download quality to adjust quality. Higher quality can take longer, use more data, and consume more storage. To prevent downloads over mobile data, enable Download over Wi-Fi only under Settings > Background & downloads, as described in YouTube’s download settings guidance.

- Please note, this device does not support E-SIM; This 4G model is compatible with all GSM networks worldwide outside of the U.S. In the US, ONLY compatible with T-Mobile and their MVNO's (Metro and Standup). It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).
- Compatibility with certain third-party devices and accessibility accessories, including some hearing aids, may vary depending on manufacturer support, Bluetooth protocols, software compatibility, and regional firmware limitations. For additional hearing aid compatibility information, please refer to Samsung’s official support documentation.
- Camera: 50 MP, f/1.8, (wide), 1/2.76", 0.64µm, AF | 50 MP, f/1.8, (wide), 1/2.76", 0.64µm, AF | 2 MP, f/2.4, (macro). Battery: 5000 mAh, non-removable | A power adapter is NOT included.
YouTube says that when less than 5% of the device’s storage remains, additional downloads are prevented. If you run short of space, remove downloads you no longer need or change the destination before downloading more.
Save downloads to a microSD card, if your Samsung model supports one
A microSD card is an option only if your exact Samsung model has a card slot. After installing a card, open YouTube Settings > Background & downloads and enable Use SD card before downloading. YouTube’s SD-card download instructions say devices without SD-card support save downloads to internal memory. Existing downloads cannot be moved between internal storage and the card; delete and download them again after changing the destination.

Know when offline downloads need an internet connection
Downloaded videos require periodic reconnection to YouTube, but the interval depends on the region and feature. YouTube’s Premium Android guidance says downloads can play for up to 29 days before reconnecting, while some locations have a 48-hour period. Its select-location mobile instructions also describe reconnecting every 48 hours, with some non-music content allowed for up to 29 days. These are not a single guaranteed period for every Samsung user; follow the notices in the app and the guidance that applies to your location. See YouTube’s Premium Android guidance and select-location mobile guidance.
What happens when you switch phones or end Premium?
YouTube downloads are device-specific and do not automatically appear on a replacement Samsung phone. Sign in on the new device and download eligible videos again. YouTube also says Premium downloads are no longer accessible after the membership ends; see its download and SD-card help.

If you want a video file rather than offline playback in YouTube, YouTube lets you download videos that you uploaded yourself through the Android YouTube or YouTube Studio apps. Available file options are 720p or 360p depending on video size, and YouTube limits downloads of an individual video to five in 24 hours. This creator-file feature does not download other people’s videos: YouTube Help says, “You can’t download other user’s YouTube videos.” For other creators’ videos, use the official app’s offline playback option when it is available. See YouTube’s instructions for downloading your own videos.
