To download a Yoto card for offline listening, connect the Yoto Player or Yoto Mini to Wi-Fi, insert the card, and let it play for a few seconds. Then leave the player switched on, plugged in to charge, and connected to Wi-Fi until the download finishes. The audio is stored on the player; the physical card identifies what to play.
Download a card you already own for offline playback
- Connect the player to Wi-Fi. Yoto says Wi-Fi is needed for setup and the first time each card is played. See Yoto’s first-card playback guidance.
- Insert the card and let it play for a few seconds. The first play streams while the audio downloads to the player in the background. Repeat this for each card you want to have available offline.
- Leave the player on, charging, and connected. Give it time to finish downloading. Yoto recommends leaving it overnight before a trip if needed; it does not specify a guaranteed download time.
- Check download status in the Yoto app. Open Settings → [player] → Audio Download Status to see which titles are downloaded and which are still waiting. Yoto’s app guidance covers checking status.
- Test before leaving Wi-Fi. Disconnect the player from Wi-Fi and try a card marked as downloaded.
Yoto Support says that once a card has downloaded, it plays without internet. The rule does not apply to radio stations and podcasts, which stream continuously and do not become offline audio through this process. See Yoto’s explanation of online and offline playback.
Choose the right method for your content

The Green Button library-download option is documented for Yoto Player 4th Gen and Yoto Mini 4th Gen. Some physical-card purchases may need to be inserted once before their titles appear in the library. Yoto says a player with more library audio than storage can retain more-played titles and make room for others; an item can download again when played online. The guidance does not state storage capacity by model. Details are in Yoto’s offline playback guidance.

Add your own MP3s to a Make Your Own card
- Sign in to the Yoto web dashboard using the same email address as your Yoto app account.
- Create a Make Your Own playlist, upload your MP3 files, and save it. You can name tracks and give them icons.
- In the app, open the playlist, tap the three-dot menu, and choose Link to a Card.
- Insert a Make Your Own card and confirm the link. Yoto says the player displays a red record icon followed by a green tick when linking succeeds.
- Remove and reinsert the card to play the playlist. Connect the player to Wi-Fi and allow the audio to download if you want it available offline.
Yoto’s full instructions are in How to add your own MP3 files to a Yoto card. Only use audio you created or have permission to use. Yoto warns that rights-holder terms and copyright rules vary by country; owning an audio file does not by itself establish permission to upload or share it. See Yoto’s Make Your Own guidance.

Link a Digital Card to a physical card
A Digital Card can be played in the app or linked to a Make Your Own card. After linking it and downloading its content to the player, it works like a regular card for offline playback, except that radio and podcast cards still need a connection. Yoto also describes Make Your Own cards as a way to make a physical copy of eligible library content if a card is lost or damaged. Each Make Your Own card links to one title at a time. What to check if a card will not play offline
- The download is still incomplete: Leave the player on, charging, and connected to Wi-Fi longer, then check Audio Download Status again.
- The card has not been played online yet: Insert it while connected and let it play for a few seconds to start the download process.
- It is a radio or podcast card: These require an active connection rather than a completed offline download.
- You are relying on phone-app playback: The app can play library audio while the phone has Wi-Fi or mobile data, but that does not mean audio has been downloaded to the player.
- You need settings while away: Set player options before disconnecting. Yoto’s holiday preparation guide calls out settings, day-and-night clock behavior, Yoto Radio, Yoto Daily, and podcast and radio cards as offline limitations.
