You can download Netflix movies and shows for offline viewing in the Netflix app on supported Android and Apple phones and tablets, Amazon Fire tablets, and Chromebooks with the Google Play Store. Netflix downloads are not available on Windows computers, even if the Netflix app is installed. Look for the Downloads icon on a title: if it is missing, that title cannot be downloaded in your region at that time.
Which devices support Netflix downloads?
Netflix downloads are tied to the app and device—not just to whether Netflix can stream on a screen. Netflix lists these device types for downloads:
- Android phones and tablets: Use the Netflix app. Some Android devices may not support downloads, so keep the operating system and app current.
- iPhone and iPad: Netflix says downloads work on iOS 12 or later. Its latest app guidance requires iOS/iPadOS 18 or later, while downloads on an ad-supported experience require iOS/iPadOS 16 or later. Check the current App Store listing and your device’s compatibility.
- Amazon Fire tablets: Netflix troubleshooting specifies Fire OS 7 or later. Compatibility can vary by model.
- Chromebooks: The Chromebook must have the Google Play Store installed so you can use the Netflix app.
Netflix’s troubleshooting guidance says downloads are unavailable on Windows devices. A Netflix app for Windows 10 or later does not provide offline downloads. Smart TVs, streaming devices, game consoles, and browser viewing may support streaming, but Netflix does not list them as download platforms.

- Install or update the Netflix app on a supported device and sign in.
- Find a downloadable title. Open a movie or show and look for the Downloads icon. On mobile, you can also browse the “See What You Can Download” area. Chromebook navigation may differ.
- Save the title. For a movie, select Download. For a show, select the download control beside an episode, or choose Download Season when offered. Netflix recommends using Wi-Fi to reduce mobile data use.
- Play it later from Downloads. Open the Netflix app’s Downloads section and select the saved title or episode.
Can I download Netflix shows on my laptop?
Not on a Windows laptop: Netflix says Windows downloads are unavailable, including through its Windows app. A Chromebook is the laptop exception in Netflix’s listed download-device guidance, provided it has the Google Play Store and the Netflix app. For another computer, streaming in a browser does not create an offline copy.

Where are my Netflix downloads?
Downloads appear in the Downloads section of the Netflix app on the same device used to save them. They do not transfer to another phone, tablet, or computer. To access them offline, remain signed in to Netflix. Downloads may expire; Netflix also says some titles have an annual re-download limit. Canceling the account deletes device downloads. Reinstalling the app or clearing app data can remove downloads as well.
How many Netflix titles can I download?
Netflix’s Help Center guidance accessed in 2026 describes different limits by plan type. The limits concern downloads, not streaming, and do not mean every title is downloadable.

Why can’t I download a movie on Netflix?
If a title has no Downloads icon, it is generally not available for download rather than evidence of a device problem. Netflix says availability can depend on distribution rights, including rights held exclusively by another company or rights a content provider has not made available for purchase. Popularity, cost, seasonality, and localization can also affect what is downloadable. Even a Netflix-branded original may have a studio or other rights holder retaining franchise or intellectual-property rights that do not include downloads.
Download eligibility and catalogs vary by region and can change over time. If the icon should be available but downloading fails, check that your device and app meet the requirements above, that you are signed in, and that the app still has the download saved.
