You can use the PlayStation App to queue downloads for a paired PS5 and delete games to free storage. For downloads to start while you’re away, the console must be online in Rest Mode, with the relevant automatic-download settings configured. The app can’t move or copy games.
Before you start: pair the app and prepare the PS5
- Sign in to the PlayStation App with the same PlayStation account you use on your PS5.
- In the app, go to Settings > Pair Console to App and follow the prompts.
- On the PS5, enable Stay Connected to the Internet in the Rest Mode settings. The console also needs to be in Rest Mode for a remote download to start while it is idle.
- Set up automatic downloads on the PS5. Sony notes that if automatic downloads have not been set up, a remote download may not begin until the console is next turned on.

Download a game or add-on to your PS5
Download a purchased game
- Open the PlayStation App and select Game Library at the bottom of the screen.
- Choose Purchased, then select the game.
- Tap Download to Console.
Download an add-on
- Open the game in the app and select Add-Ons.
- Choose the add-on and tap Download to Console.
You can also buy a game in the app: open the PlayStation Store, select and purchase the title, then go to Game Library > Purchased and start the download. See Sony’s game and add-on download instructions for details.

Check storage and delete games from your phone
- In the PlayStation App, select Settings > PS5 Storage.
- Review the available space on the PS5 and, if connected, USB extended storage.
- Select the games you want to remove and confirm deletion.
This frees space by deleting selected games; it does not transfer them elsewhere. Sony states: “Moving and copying games isn’t supported on PlayStation App.” If you choose an installed M.2 SSD as the default download location and it lacks space, the app may offer to delete content before the download starts. What to do when PS5 storage is full
Choose an option based on whether you want to keep a game installed and where you need to play it. The app itself cannot transfer a game between storage locations.

Check Sony’s storage guidance before buying or installing an M.2 SSD. An SSD is optional; you do not need one to download or delete games through the app.

Troubleshoot remote downloads and console pairing
The PS5 does not appear in the app
- Check that the app and console use the same PlayStation account.
- In the app, return to Settings > Pair Console to App and follow the prompts again.
Sony’s pairing guidance also mentions a primary-console requirement for PS4. That PS4-specific condition does not apply to the PS5 workflow here. See PlayStation App support.
The download does not start while you are away
- Confirm the PS5 is paired with the app.
- Make sure Stay Connected to the Internet is enabled in the console’s Rest Mode settings and the PS5 is in Rest Mode.
- Check that automatic downloads are set up. If not, the queued download may wait until the console is turned on.
The app cannot make enough space
Delete games you no longer need installed, or manage storage on the console. To keep more games installed, consider compatible M.2 storage; USB extended storage can hold PS5 games, but those games must be moved back to console storage or M.2 before play.

App device requirements
Sony’s US PlayStation App page lists iOS 14.0 or later and Android 8.0 or later, and describes the app as intended for smartphones and tablets rather than PC. Requirements and availability can change, so check the current listing for your device: PlayStation App for Android and iOS.
