The quickest way to download a website logo is to right-click the visible logo and choose the browser’s image-save command. If that option is missing, inspect the page to find the logo’s src, inline SVG, or CSS background URL, open that asset directly, and save the original file. Choose the full header logo when you need a wordmark; a favicon is usually only a small site icon.
Choose the logo asset you actually need
A website can expose several brand graphics. Identify the intended use before saving anything:
- Header or brand logo: the larger wordmark or symbol shown in the site’s navigation. It may be an SVG, PNG, WebP, JPEG, or a CSS background.
- Favicon: the small icon used in browser tabs and sometimes search results. It is not necessarily the site’s full logo.
- Social or structured-data image: a promotional image that may contain branding but is not the primary logo.
Keep an original SVG when you need a graphic that remains sharp at different sizes. If only a raster file is available, choose the largest suitable source rather than enlarging a tiny preview. SVG is designed for images that can be rendered at different sizes (MDN’s SVG image guidance).

- Open the page containing the logo.
- Right-click the logo (or use your device’s image context menu).
- Select Save image as…, Save picture as…, or the equivalent label in your browser.
- Choose a folder, keep the offered file extension, and select Save.
Browser labels vary. If the menu contains only options such as “Save page” or “Inspect,” the visible mark may be an inline SVG, a CSS background, or a link wrapping another element. Use the inspection method below.

Method 2: find the original file with developer tools
Developer tools expose the page’s runtime HTML, applied CSS, and requested assets. MDN’s introductions to browser developer tools and HTML images describe the inspector and page-image mechanisms.
Inspect an HTML image
- Open developer tools from the browser menu, or use the browser’s developer-tools keyboard shortcut.
- Activate the element picker (often a cursor-in-a-box icon), then click the logo.
- In the Elements or Inspector panel, look for an
<img>element. - Read its
srcattribute. Also checksrcset, which can list larger or density-specific files. - Right-click the URL and open it in a new tab, or copy it into the address bar.
- Save the image from that direct tab.
Prefer the highest-resolution candidate in srcset when you need a large raster logo. A URL may be relative, such as /assets/logo.svg; resolve it against the page’s hostname before opening it.
Inspect an inline SVG
If the inspector selects an <svg> element, the logo is embedded in the HTML rather than loaded as a separate image file. Right-click the SVG node and choose a copy option, then paste the markup into a new text file named with an .svg extension. Remove unrelated wrapper elements only if necessary, and test the file in a browser. Some SVGs depend on page CSS or external symbol definitions, so a copied fragment may not render identically outside the site.

Find a CSS background image
- With the logo element selected, open the Computed or Styles panel.
- Search for
background-imageor a declaration containingurl(...). - Copy the URL inside
url(), resolve relative paths against the stylesheet or page, and open the asset directly. - Save the resulting file.
SVG can also be used as a CSS background image; the relevant URL may be in a linked stylesheet rather than the element’s inline style (MDN’s download-attribute reference and image-format guide explain browser handling and formats).
Method 3: download a favicon
For the small icon shown in a tab, inspect the homepage’s <head> for a declaration such as:
<link rel="icon" href="/path/to/favicon.ico">Google documents accepted declarations including icon, shortcut icon, apple-touch-icon, and apple-touch-icon-precomposed. The href may be relative, absolute, or hosted on a CDN. Open that URL and save it (Google Search Central’s favicon documentation).

Google’s Search eligibility guidance says a favicon should be square, at least 8×8 pixels, and recommends larger than 48×48 pixels. Supported formats listed there include BMP, GIF, ICO, PNG, JPEG, PPM, and TIFF. Those are Search guidelines, not a universal specification for a site’s main logo. The homepage and icon must be crawlable, the URL should remain stable, and display in Search is not guaranteed even when guidelines are met. Google treats each hostname as a site for this purpose: a subdomain can have its own favicon, while a subdirectory does not receive a separate favicon under the documented scheme.

Prefer vectors for scalable artwork
An SVG normally preserves sharp edges in print, presentations, and responsive interfaces. Keep the original file instead of converting it to a low-resolution bitmap. Be aware that SVG behavior can differ when loaded as an image because browser security restrictions may limit scripts, external resources, or styling.
Use the largest available raster source
PNG is useful when transparency is required; JPEG is suitable for photographic content but usually not ideal for flat logo artwork. WebP may be the only file offered by a modern site. Do not upscale a favicon and present it as a high-resolution logo: it contains too few pixels and may be a different design.
Check transparency and background
Open the downloaded file over both a light and dark background. A white logo may appear blank on a white canvas, while a transparent SVG or PNG may look different from the version displayed over the site’s header color.
When the browser shows a URL but will not download it
Opening an image URL may display the file in a tab instead of triggering a download. Use the tab’s image context menu and choose its save command. Browser settings and HTTP response headers control this behavior. The HTML download attribute cannot force arbitrary cross-origin downloads; MDN notes that it is limited to same-origin URLs and blob: or data: URLs, and headers can affect the result (MDN).
If a site blocks direct access, download through the page’s normal interaction, use the browser’s Network panel to identify the request made when the page loads, or ask the owner for an approved brand-asset package. Do not attempt to bypass authentication or access controls.

Also compare background or transparency, pixel dimensions, and whether the asset matches the intended light or dark theme.
Rights and permitted reuse
Public availability does not grant permission to reuse a logo. Before placing it in software, advertising, merchandise, or a publication, read the owner’s brand or permissions guidance. Google’s Brand Resource Center illustrates how brand-specific rules can define acceptable uses, spacing, colors, and modifications. If no guidance is available, contact the owner and retain a copy of the permission or license.

Troubleshooting checklist
“Save image” is not offered
Inspect the element. It is likely an inline SVG, CSS background, canvas rendering, or a linked container rather than an <img>. Follow the SVG markup or CSS url() reference.

The downloaded file is tiny
You probably saved a favicon or a low-resolution responsive candidate. Return to the header logo, inspect srcset, and select the largest original source.
The logo is blurry
Find an SVG or a larger raster URL. A screenshot or favicon cannot add detail that was never present.
The SVG is blank or missing its colors
The original may rely on page CSS, external symbols, or a current-color setting. Save the complete SVG node and inspect linked styles before editing it.
The direct URL returns an error
Check that you copied the complete URL, including query parameters, and that the page is publicly accessible. Relative URLs must be resolved against the correct origin or stylesheet location.
The result has the wrong theme
Sites may swap logos for light mode, dark mode, or responsive breakpoints. Resize the viewport or change the page theme, then inspect the asset loaded in that state.

Can I download a logo from a site I do not own?
