Show membership benefits in two places: use YouTube’s native membership features for badges, member messages and chat participation, then add a short, persistent overlay to the video if you want viewers to see the offer even when they are not looking at chat or channel menus. List only perks your channel actually provides, and point viewers to the channel’s Join or See perks area for the full details.
What viewers can see natively on YouTube
YouTube membership features vary by channel: creators choose the levels and perks they offer, and some features must be enabled or set up. Viewers can check a channel’s Join or See perks area for its actual offer. Do not imply that every channel provides every possible YouTube perk.
- Badges: Membership badges appear beside members’ names in comments and live chat. Badges can indicate membership tenure.
- New-member message: When someone joins during a livestream, YouTube displays a bright green New Member message in chat and pins that member’s profile picture at the top of chat for five minutes.
- Members-only chat: On a public livestream, the creator can restrict who posts in chat to members while leaving the video viewable to everyone. This limits chat participation; it does not make the livestream private.
- Milestone chats: Eligible members can send a highlighted chat message once per month starting with their second consecutive membership month. All viewers can see the message in chat.
- Custom emoji: Members can use creator-uploaded emoji in live chat. They are not available automatically; the creator must upload them.
Other possible membership benefits include members-only posts, early access to videos, members-only livestreams, a member recognition shelf, Shorts and videos. Which benefits are available depends on the channel’s setup and offer.

- Open YouTube Studio’s memberships controls. In YouTube Studio, go to the channel memberships area to create or manage levels and perks. YouTube’s current Help documentation describes up to six levels, with one to five perks per level.
- Define the actual offer for each level. Higher-priced levels include the perks from lower levels, so make the full set clear when describing a tier.
- Submit levels and perks for review. YouTube reviews proposed levels and perks against its policies before they go live. The Help page says this review takes about a day; allow time for approval before advertising a new benefit.
- Confirm the live-chat features you intend to mention. Upload custom emoji if you plan to advertise them, and decide whether members-only chat or other membership features suit the particular stream.
YouTube’s interface and feature availability can change. If a control is not visible, check the current YouTube Studio membership settings and the relevant Help page for eligibility and availability in your channel’s region.

Put a persistent benefits panel in the stream
Native badges and chat messages appear in YouTube’s interface, not necessarily inside the video image. To explain the offer on-screen throughout a 24/7 broadcast, add a text or graphic panel to the stream composition using an encoder scene or a web overlay.
- Write a concise, accurate message. Name one or two active benefits and direct viewers to Join or See perks. For example: “Members get chat badges, custom emoji, and [channel-specific perk] — see Join → Perks.” This is suggested wording, not official YouTube copy.
- Add it to the composed video. In an encoder, place a text or graphic element in a scene that is included in the live output. Keep it legible and clear of important video content and chat. YouTube supports encoder-based productions for advanced setups, including overlays.
- For OBS, use a Browser Source for web overlays. OBS does not supply alerts itself. Its guidance describes embedding third-party alert overlays in a scene through a Browser Source, which can display web-based overlays. This is a production option, not an endorsement or confirmation that a particular vendor supports YouTube membership alerts.
- Preview the actual stream composition. Check that the panel is readable at the output resolution, does not cover essential content, and appears in the scene that is actually being sent to YouTube.
YouTube and OBS documentation establish the available features and production paths, but do not prescribe a panel’s wording, placement, design or rotation interval. Treat those choices as editorial decisions. Verify every displayed benefit against the channel’s live membership offer before publishing the stream.

Choose between native signals and an overlay

The two approaches can complement each other: native features identify members and support eligible participation, while the overlay can summarize the offer and point to the channel’s membership details.
Plan for the archive separately from the 24/7 viewing experience
YouTube’s encoder setup documentation says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. It does not establish that a single uninterrupted 24-hour broadcast will be archived in full as one video. If a complete recording matters, do not assume that an always-on viewing experience guarantees a complete archive; plan the broadcast and recording needs accordingly.

Troubleshoot common display problems
- The overlay is missing from the live video: Confirm that the text, image or Browser Source is in the active encoder scene and that the scene is part of the output sent to YouTube.
- The overlay appears in OBS but not to viewers: Check that you are previewing the program output rather than a different scene, then verify the live output itself.
- A promised perk is not available: Check the channel’s active levels and perks in YouTube Studio. Remove or correct the overlay wording until the advertised benefit is actually offered.
- Members cannot post in chat: Check whether members-only chat is enabled and whether the viewer is signed into the account with the relevant membership. Remember that this setting controls who can post, not who can watch.
- Custom emoji do not appear: Confirm that the creator uploaded the emoji and that the viewer is using an eligible member account.
- A 24/7 stream is not archived as expected: The under-12-hour automatic-archive guidance does not guarantee a complete archive of a continuous 24-hour broadcast. Make a separate plan for any recording you need.
