To disable a supported preinstalled app on a Samsung Galaxy, open Settings > Apps, select the app, tap Disable, and confirm. If Samsung offers no Disable or Uninstall button, that app is not removable through the documented consumer controls on your device. You can still hide its icon if your goal is simply a cleaner Home or Apps screen.
What does “bloatware” mean on a Samsung phone?
“Bloatware” is a user-dependent label, not a fixed category of apps that are safe to delete. Samsung defines it as software preloaded on a device that is extraneous to a person’s daily needs, while noting that an app one owner does not use may matter to another. Some preinstalled apps also support Galaxy features or device security. Start by considering what you use and what depends on the app, rather than following a universal removal list.

How do I disable bloatware on my Samsung phone?
- Open Settings.
- Tap Apps.
- Select the app you want to stop.
- Tap Disable, then confirm Disable app if prompted.
Samsung also documents an alternate shortcut on some devices: touch and hold the app on the Apps screen, then choose Disable if that option appears. The Galaxy S23-series manual describes an available-option menu for apps, but the labels and choices can differ on other models.

If the app page has no Disable button, Samsung does not expose that control for the app on your device. That does not necessarily mean anything is wrong, and it is not a reason to assume a hidden removal method is safe. Samsung says only some preinstalled apps can be disabled; others are required or integrated with device functions.
How do I hide an app without disabling it?
- Open the Apps screen.
- Tap More options, then Settings.
- Tap Hide apps on Home and Apps screens.
- Select the app and tap Done.
This changes where the icon appears, not whether the app is installed or can run. A hidden app may still be discoverable through search.

Can I uninstall apps that came with my Samsung phone?
Some preinstalled apps have an Uninstall option; others do not. If the button is available, Samsung says uninstalling removes the app and frees storage. If the button is absent, the app cannot be uninstalled through this documented setting on your phone. Essential apps such as Phone, Messages, Contacts, Gallery, and My Files are examples Samsung identifies as required for basic functions and not deletable through the covered controls; availability can vary by device.
Google’s Android Help also explains that some system apps cannot be deleted and that whether a phone permits disabling them depends on the device. For Galaxy-specific options, follow Samsung’s device instructions rather than assuming Android behaves identically across manufacturers.

How do I turn a disabled app back on?
- Open Settings and tap Apps.
- Select the disabled app. If needed, look in the Apps settings for disabled apps; the exact placement can vary.
- Tap Enable.
The app becomes available again. Samsung’s manuals and support pages note that menu placement and wording may vary by model and software version.
What should you expect after disabling apps?
The documented effect of disabling is that a supported app stops running while remaining installed. The cited Samsung and Google guidance does not quantify storage recovered, battery savings, or performance gains from disabling apps. Do not count on a particular improvement without evidence for your specific phone and app.

Samsung’s consumer instructions are app-specific. They do not establish a current universal safe list of packages for removal using advanced tools such as ADB. Package-level removal is a separate, device-specific procedure and should not be treated as a routine substitute when Disable is unavailable.
Is Knox Configure needed to remove apps?
No. An individual changing settings on a personal Galaxy phone can use the controls above. Samsung Knox Configure is a separate cloud service for administrators managing Galaxy phones, tablets, and wearables across a business fleet. Samsung’s business guidance describes administrators specifying app package names for removal or disablement, while noting that apps built into the operating system may only be disabled or hidden rather than completely removed. This management path is intended for managed devices, not required for consumer app cleanup.
