AOL Mail’s current help pages do not document a setting that disables links from unknown senders. You can review sender controls under Settings → More Settings → Security, but blocking senders or limiting messages to contacts affects which email you receive—not whether links inside a message work.
What AOL Mail’s settings can and can’t do
AOL documents controls for blocking unwanted senders and managing privacy, but its current help pages do not list a link-specific switch for unknown senders. AOL’s settings index also lists sender blocking and spam management without identifying a control to disable links: AOL Mail settings.
That means sender filtering may reduce unwanted messages, but it should not be treated as a way to neutralize links in messages you receive. The official documentation reviewed describes the available controls; it does not establish that every AOL interface or legacy client lacks any link-specific option.

How to find AOL Mail’s sender and security controls
- Sign in to AOL Mail.
- Click Settings, then choose More Settings.
- Select Security to review the sender-blocking and privacy controls available for your account.
- Choose the setting you want to change and click Save if prompted.
This is AOL’s documented settings route. The specific controls shown can vary by account or interface; the Security area is the nearest documented place to inspect, not a guaranteed link-control location. See AOL’s instructions for managing Mail settings.

Consider the contacts-only option carefully
AOL describes an option to receive messages only from senders in your contact list. This is a message-acceptance rule: it may keep legitimate first-time senders from reaching your inbox, and AOL’s description does not say it disables links in messages that do arrive. Review AOL’s Mail overview before enabling it.

What to do with a suspicious message
- Do not click links in a message that seems suspicious.
- Use AOL’s available spam or reporting controls for unwanted email.
- If the message asks you to act on an account, payment, or delivery, verify the request through a known official website or contact channel rather than through the message link.
