There is no single BIOS or UEFI setting that turns off every startup error message. What you can change depends on what the computer is doing: pausing at an F1 prompt, hiding POST text behind a logo, or stopping on a warning. Each behavior is controlled by a different option, and some options only change how a message is displayed, not whether the underlying fault exists.
Identify which behavior you are seeing
Start by noting exactly what appears on screen. Write down or photograph the full message, including any error code, and identify the make and model of the computer or motherboard. Menu names and defaults differ between manufacturers and even between board generations, so the settings below are examples from specific products, not a universal sequence.
| Symptom | Setting to look for | Example from vendor documentation | What it does | What it does not do |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Boot pauses and asks you to press F1 | Wait for F1 if there is error | ASUS: Boot menu. Supermicro: Wait For “F1” If Error, with Disabled and Enabled options | Removes the F1 pause after an error | Does not repair the fault that caused the error |
| A logo appears instead of POST text | Quiet Boot | Intel server guidance (last reviewed February 14, 2025); Siemens BIOS-Setup reference manual | Shows POST information instead of the logo when set to Disabled | On the Supermicro B14DBT board (manual last published September 3, 2024), POST messages still appear regardless of this setting |
| Startup is too fast to read POST text | Extend BIOS POST Time | Dell Precision 7820 Tower Owner’s Manual: 0, 5, or 10 seconds | Adds a pre-boot delay so POST status messages stay on screen longer | Does not hide messages; it only lengthens the time they are visible |
| Startup stops on a warning or error | Prompt on Warnings and Errors / Continue on Warnings / Continue on Warnings and Errors | Dell Precision 7820 Tower Owner’s Manual; Prompt on Warnings and Errors is the default in that manual | Controls whether the system pauses or proceeds when a warning or error occurs | Continuing does not clear the condition; the fault remains |
| Error messages are shown or halt the system | Post Error Message; Halt On | Gigabyte H374-A81-AAW1 Server Manual: Post Error Message enabled or disabled; Halt On set to No Error or All Error | Separately controls whether an error message appears and whether it halts boot | Option coupling differs by vendor; default values are listed in the manual, not universal |
Stop an F1 pause after an error
ASUS’s support article on the message “need to press F1 to enter operation system” gives this model-specific path. ASUS labels the change “Not suggested,” so read the next section before you use it.

- Go to Boot and find Wait for F1 if there is error.
- Set the value to Disabled.
- Save changes and exit.
After the restart, the boot should no longer stop at the F1 prompt for that error. The warning itself is still present, so the next startup can still reveal the same problem.

- Default format: FAT32, you can reformat it to exFAT if needed.
Show POST text instead of a logo
Quiet Boot controls whether startup displays POST information or a manufacturer or OEM logo. If a logo is hiding a BIOS or RAID setup prompt, Intel’s server guidance says to set Quiet Boot to Disabled so the prompt becomes visible.
- Enter BIOS setup during startup.
- Set Quiet Boot to Disabled.
- Choose Save Changes and Exit.
Quiet Boot is not a general error suppressor. Setting it to Disabled makes startup text visible; it does not stop error messages from appearing. Supermicro’s B14DBT manual states that POST messages are always displayed regardless of this setting on that board, so if you have a Supermicro system, do not expect this change to affect POST messages.

- The Data Recovery Stick requires no technical skills — simply plug it into your Windows computer, click Start, and the software automatically begins scanning and recovering lost files within minutes. Compatible with Windows Vista, 7, 8, 10, & 11, it's designed to be a reliable first step when accidental deletion occurs.
- Recover photos (JPG, BMP, PNG, TIFF), Microsoft Office documents (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Access), Open Office files, MP3 music files, PDFs, RTF documents, AutoCAD files, and HTML web pages. Whether it's personal memories or critical business files, the Data Recovery Stick covers the file types that matter most.
- Works with hard drives, USB drives, SD cards, memory sticks, and other common storage formats that use FAT or NTFS file systems — making it a single solution for hard drive recovery, USB drive recovery, SD card recovery, and more. Note: a media reader is required for micro SD cards and some mass storage devices.
- No Installation Required - The Data Recovery Stick runs entirely from the USB drive with no software installation on your computer — helping prevent new data from overwriting the files you're trying to recover. This also makes it ideal for use across multiple computers or in emergency situations where installation isn't practical.
- Use the Data Recovery Stick on as many computers as often as needed — simply clear the recovered data between uses to free up storage space. Software updates keep the tool compatible with newer systems and devices, backed by 25+ years of data software expertise from Paraben Consumer Software.
Let the system continue past warnings or errors
Some firmware lets the machine proceed when it detects a warning or error, rather than pausing. The options are not interchangeable across vendors.

Dell
The Dell Precision 7820 Tower Owner’s Manual lists three choices: Prompt on Warnings and Errors (the default), Continue on Warnings, and Continue on Warnings and Errors. Choosing a continue option lets the boot proceed, so the fault is not addressed by that change.

Siemens
The Siemens BIOS-Setup reference manual describes SM Error Halt, which stops startup after a monitoring error reported by the baseboard management controller, but only when Halt On All Errors is selected.

What hiding or bypassing a message costs
An error message is usually the only signal that something needs attention. ASUS points to three common causes of startup messages that should be checked before any pause is removed:
Recommended Free Tools
- CPU fan: confirm the fan spins and is connected to the correct header.
- Drive SMART status: a drive reporting a SMART warning may be failing; back up data before changing anything.
- CMOS battery: a weak coin-cell battery can reset settings and trigger startup messages.
If the cause is one of these, the fix is physical or data-related. A changed BIOS option only makes the message less visible.
Change settings safely
- Record the current value of every option before you change it, so you can restore it.
- Change one setting at a time and test the boot after each change.
- Use the manual for your exact model. Microsoft’s guidance on firmware settings advises caution and notes that menus vary by manufacturer.
- If a machine no longer starts after a change, reset the BIOS to defaults through the manufacturer’s documented method and try again.
If the setting you need is not in your model’s manual, the message itself is the most useful clue. Search the manufacturer’s support site for the exact text of the message and your model number.
