To disable ad blocking, first identify what is doing the blocking: a browser’s built-in setting or a separate extension or app. For one trusted site, use a site-specific permission or allowlist when available; a browser-wide change affects every site. The steps below cover verified controls for Chrome on a computer, Firefox for iPhone and iPad, Safari on iPhone, Edge on mobile, and the AdBlock and Adblock Plus extensions. Menus differ across devices and versions, so these paths do not cover every browser.
First identify which ad blocker is active
A browser may have a built-in control for certain ads, while an extension or app can filter ads separately. Changing one does not necessarily change the other. For example, Chrome’s “Intrusive ads” setting applies to sites that Chrome identifies as having poor ad experiences; it does not disable a separately installed ad-blocking extension. Google’s Chrome instructions explain the built-in control.
- If you installed a blocker or see its icon in the browser toolbar, use that extension’s pause or allowlist controls.
- If you use Safari on iPhone, content-blocking extensions are managed through iPhone settings or Safari’s per-site extension controls.
- If the device or browser is managed by an organization, an administrator may control the setting.
Allow ads on one site or every site?
A one-site exception is usually the more limited change: it leaves blocking in place elsewhere. A global browser setting changes the default for all sites. Extension pauses and allowlists are separate again; some expire or renew based on visits.

Turn off Chrome’s built-in intrusive-ad setting on a computer
This changes Chrome’s built-in control, not a separate extension. Chrome describes the control as blocking ads on sites with poor ad experiences, such as those with too many ads, flashing graphics, autoplaying audio, or ad walls.
#1 Best Overall
Allow ads by default
- In Chrome, open More > Settings > Privacy and security > Site settings > Additional content settings > Intrusive ads.
- Under Default behavior, choose Any site you visit can show any ad to you.
Allow ads on one site
- Open the site in Chrome.
- Select View site information > Site settings.
- Set Intrusive ads to Allow.
- Reload the page.
These paths and setting labels are from Google Chrome Help.
Turn off the blocker in Firefox on iPhone or iPad
Firefox for iOS has an optional ad blocker. Mozilla says the feature uses a filter list based on EasyList to block many ads and related trackers, but some ads may remain. It does not block search-result ads or sponsored content on Firefox Home or New Tab. Mozilla also describes the feature as experimental and progressively rolling it out, so it may not appear for every user.
Disable it in Firefox settings
- Open the Firefox menu and tap Settings.
- Scroll to Browsing.
- Under Content, switch Ad Blocker off.
Disable it for the page you are viewing
- Open the page in Firefox and open the Site menu.
- Tap Ad Blocker and switch it off.
See Mozilla’s Firefox for iOS instructions for the feature and its availability.

Turn off a content-blocking extension in Safari on iPhone
These instructions are for Safari on iPhone; they do not establish the matching steps for every macOS Safari version.
Disable or change an extension generally
- Open the iPhone’s Settings app > Apps > Safari > Extensions.
- Select the content-blocking extension.
- Turn it off or adjust its settings.
Disable an extension for one website
- Open the website in Safari.
- Tap the Page Menu, then choose Manage Extensions.
- Switch the extension off for that site.
Apple advises reviewing installed extensions and understanding what they do. See Apple’s iPhone Safari extension guide.
Turn off ad blocking in Edge on Android or iPhone
- Open the Edge menu.
- Choose Settings > Content blockers.
- Switch Block ads off.
Microsoft documents this path for Edge on Android and iOS in its Edge app help. When blocking is on, some ads that Adblock Plus considers acceptable may still appear; seeing some ads does not by itself mean the setting is off.
Pause or allowlist a site in an ad-blocking extension
If a separate extension is blocking the page, changing the browser’s built-in ad setting may not help. Use the extension’s own site exception.

AdBlock on desktop Chrome, Firefox, or Edge
- Open the site and click the AdBlock toolbar icon.
- Choose Pause on this site. The page refreshes with blocking paused for that site.
- When you want blocking back, click the icon and choose Resume Ad Blocking.
AdBlock says a paused site is allowlisted for seven days; visiting the site again during that period renews the allowlisting for another seven days. See the AdBlock Help Center instructions.
Adblock Plus allowlist options
Adblock Plus documents different paths by browser:
- Chrome, Edge, Opera, or Firefox: click the toolbar icon, open the gear or settings, choose Allowlisted websites, enter the site URL, and add it.
- Safari on iOS: in the Adblock Plus app, open Safari Blocking > Allowlisted Sites.
- Safari on macOS: use the extension’s Allowlist tab.
- Samsung Browser on Android: choose Add websites to the allowlist.
Adblock Plus says smart allowlisting lasts seven days and renews if you visit the site during that period. See its allowlist instructions.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What to check if a site still says to disable your ad blocker
A site’s warning may persist after you pause or allowlist one blocker because another extension or software may still filter content. Adblock Plus specifically notes that detection can come from another extension or software even when its own blocker is paused, the site is allowlisted, or its icon is grayed out.
- Check the browser’s installed extensions for another ad blocker or content filter.
- Check for other filtering software that could affect the page.
- Confirm the exception was added to the blocker that is active on that browser.
- Reload the page after changing a setting.
These checks cannot guarantee that every site warning will disappear. More detail is available in Adblock Plus’s troubleshooting guidance.

When Edge settings are managed by an organization
On a managed Edge deployment, an administrator can set the AdsSettingForIntrusiveAdsSites policy. Microsoft maps AllowAds (1) to allowing ads on all sites and BlockAds (2) to blocking ads on sites with intrusive ads; blocking is the documented default. The policy may be enforced, preventing an end user from changing it. Microsoft lists supported versions and updated its policy page on May 22, 2026. These are administrator settings, not steps for changing a personal mobile Edge setting. See Microsoft Learn’s policy documentation.

The verified paths above are specific to the named browser and device combinations. They do not establish current instructions for Chrome on Android, every desktop Firefox configuration, or Safari on macOS.
