First, identify what you mean by “white noise”: is it static coming from the TV speakers, or snow-like interference on the screen? Then check whether it happens on one channel or connected device, or across every source. Speaker noise and picture interference point to different checks.

Start by identifying where the noise occurs

Check the TV’s live channels, connected devices, and menus. Note whether the noise is audible or visible, and whether it appears with just one source or with several. If it is limited to one channel or device, compare another channel or source before assuming the TV itself is faulty. The official support guidance below is general; menu labels and reset procedures vary by model.

If you hear static, hiss, buzzing, or hum

Noise from the speakers can come from a connection or source, or it may persist across sources. Try these checks in order:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Secure the connections. Check that audio and coaxial cables are firmly connected at both ends.
  2. Compare sources. Try another channel and another device, such as a game system or disc player. If you use a box or receiver, try another channel on it; you can also reduce its volume or test another source device.
  3. Check for nearby interference. Move nearby electronic devices away from the TV temporarily and see whether the sound changes.
  4. Power-reset the TV. If the noise continues, follow the reset instructions for your TV model.

If the sound occurs with just one channel or device, inspect that source and its connection. If it continues across channels and devices after these checks, consult the manufacturer’s model-specific support. Sony Support says, “If the issue still occurs, repair may be required.” Sony’s speaker-noise troubleshooting recommends checking cables, comparing channels or sources, and addressing possible interference. Samsung’s speaker-noise guidance also recommends checking connections, testing another external device, and, where appropriate, trying another audio connection cable.

If you see snow, static, or a “No Signal” message

Screen interference or a no-signal message means the picture problem needs a signal and input check, not a speaker-noise check.

  1. Select the correct input. Make sure the TV input matches the port used by the connected device, and confirm that device is powered on.
  2. Check the connection. Reseat the HDMI cable. If the problem remains, compare another HDMI port or cable, then test another source device if available.
  3. Compare sources. If other devices show a picture on the same TV, check the original device and its connection. A no-signal message can mean the TV is not receiving a signal from the connected box or service.

Roku recommends checking the selected input and cable connection when a cable or satellite box has no signal. LG likewise advises checking the input and connected device when the TV displays “No Signal.” See Roku’s no-signal troubleshooting and LG’s no-signal guidance. An HDMI cable replacement is a diagnostic option if your setup uses HDMI and the connection checks point to the cable; it is not a fix for every picture problem.

If the problem is with antenna channels

For over-the-air TV, check that the coaxial cable is firmly connected, then scan for channels again and try adjusting the antenna. Roku’s antenna instructions suggest placing it higher or near a window and moving it away from possible interference sources such as routers, LED bulbs, and large metal appliances. Channel availability depends on location and antenna placement. These are Roku TV instructions, so other models may offer different menu paths or options. See Roku’s antenna and channel guidance.

Use the pattern to choose your next check

What you notice Next check
Noise on one channel only Try another channel to see whether the issue follows that broadcast or source.
Noise with one box or HDMI device Reseat the connection and compare another port, cable, or source device.
Picture trouble on antenna channels Check the coax connection, rescan channels, and adjust antenna placement.
Speaker noise across multiple channels and devices Follow the TV maker’s model-specific reset guidance and contact manufacturer support if it persists.

These checks help narrow down the source; they do not diagnose a specific hardware fault. If the symptom persists, use the TV manufacturer’s manual or support channel for your model.
