Uptime Kuma is a self-hosted monitoring tool you can run with Docker Compose, Docker, or a non-Docker installation on supported Linux and Windows systems. For most readers already using Docker, the project’s Compose setup is a straightforward starting point: it exposes the web interface on port 3001 and stores data persistently. Use local storage or a Docker volume for its data directory; the project explicitly says NFS is unsupported.
What Uptime Kuma monitors—and what it can show
Uptime Kuma’s project README lists monitors for HTTP(S), TCP, keywords, JSON queries, WebSockets, ping, DNS, push checks, Steam game servers, and Docker containers. The project advertises a 20-second monitoring interval and support for 90+ notification services; these are project-stated feature claims, not independent performance measurements.
It also advertises multiple status pages, mapping status pages to domains, ping charts, certificate information, proxy support, and two-factor authentication. These feature descriptions do not establish that any particular deployment is secure by default. Plan network exposure and access controls for your own setup.
Choose a deployment method
| Method | Documented setup | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| Docker Compose | Download the project’s compose.yaml and run docker compose up -d; the example uses port 3001 and persistent storage. |
People who already manage services with Docker Compose. |
| Docker command | Run the project’s louislam/uptime-kuma:2 image, map port 3001, and mount a named volume at /app/data. |
People who want to run the container without a Compose file. |
| Non-Docker | Install on a supported Linux distribution or Windows system with Node.js 20.4 or later and Git; PM2 is listed for running in the background. | People who prefer a direct installation or do not use Docker. |
These are the methods and requirements documented in the project README, which may change. Check the current Uptime Kuma README before deploying, especially to confirm the image tag and prerequisites.

- Includes Raspberry Pi 4 4GB Model B with 1.5GHz 64-bit quad-core CPU (4GB RAM)
- Includes Pre-Loaded 32GB EVO+ Micro SD Card (Class 10), USB MicroSD Card Reader
- CanaKit Premium High-Gloss Raspberry Pi 4 Case with Integrated Fan Mount, CanaKit Low Noise Bearing System Fan
- CanaKit 3.5A USB-C Raspberry Pi 4 Power Supply (US Plug) with Noise Filter, Set of Heat Sinks, Display Cable - 6 foot (Supports up to 4K60p)
- CanaKit USB-C PiSwitch (On/Off Power Switch for Raspberry Pi 4)
Deploy with Docker Compose
-
On the host where Docker Compose is available, follow the README’s instruction to download the project’s
compose.yaml. -
In the directory containing that file, start the service:
docker compose up -d -
Open the web interface at
http://localhost:3001when accessing it from the Docker host. If accessing it from another machine, use the host’s IP address and port 3001, subject to the bind address and any network controls you configured.Recommended: PC Feels Slow? The Compose example uses port 3001 and persistent data storage. Review the file and your host’s network setup before making the interface reachable beyond the machine running it.

- Includes Raspberry Pi 5 with 2.4Ghz 64-bit quad-core CPU (8GB RAM)
- Includes 128GB Micro SD Card pre-loaded with 64-bit Raspberry Pi OS, USB MicroSD Card Reader
- CanaKit Turbine Black Case for the Raspberry Pi 5
- CanaKit Low Noise Bearing System Fan
- Mega Heat Sink - Black Anodized
Run the Docker image directly
The README’s standalone example uses the louislam/uptime-kuma:2 image, publishes port 3001, and mounts a Docker volume at /app/data. Use the exact current command from the project README, since deployment examples and image tags can change.
The README’s example exposes the service on all network interfaces. It also shows binding only to localhost with 127.0.0.1:3001:3001 when the interface should not be directly reachable from other machines. If you need a reverse proxy or a status page on a domain, consult the project’s linked advanced installation guidance; the README alone is not enough to provide reliable, version-specific proxy steps.

- powful cputhe cpu of the raspberry pi 4 model b adopts the latest arm cortex-a72 architecture, which is also used in high-performance smartphones, and has evolved into a real pc.the operating clock has been changed from pi3's 1.2ghz to 1.5ghz, and the speed has become a different dimension with the updated architecture.
- video output/gputhe on-board gpu of the raspberry pi 4 supports 4kp@60 and newly supports h.265 decoding, opengl es 3.0, etc.as for the video output, two micro hdmis with smaller connectors are installed, and the raspberry pi 4 also supports dual screen output.
- usb 3.0with a new soc, the speed of the raspberry pi 4 around i/o has been improved, and finally usb 3.0 is supported.usb boot is faster and more convenient.
- network&bluetoothgigabit ethernet (wired lan) has also been significantly speeded up from 300mbps of pi 3b + to 1000mbps (logical value).in addition, bluetooth supported version has been upgraded to 5.0, and the transfer speed of pi 4 has been doubled.
- power input connectorthe power input connector of the raspberry pi 4 has been changed to usb type c. it is easier to use than micro usb and can supply a larger current reliably.the power requirement of raspberry pi 4 model b is 5v 3.0a, which is higher than the previous model.
Keep monitoring data on supported storage
Uptime Kuma’s Docker examples persist data either through a volume or a mapped data directory. The project explicitly says NFS is unsupported for this data mapping and directs users to a local directory or volume. Decide how the data will be stored and backed up before relying on the instance. The README does not specify a backup schedule or recovery guarantee.

The project README lists major Linux distributions and Windows 10 x64 or Windows Server 2012 R2 and later for its non-Docker route. It lists Node.js 20.4 or later and Git as prerequisites, and PM2 for running the server in the background. Verify the current requirements and commands in the README before installing.

Backed by a large global community, you can easily find guides, technical support and shared projects online
The documented flow is to clone the repository, run npm run setup, then start the server directly or use PM2. Because exact commands and supported requirements can change, use the README’s current instructions rather than treating this overview as a complete installation script.
Plan access, updates, and ongoing maintenance
Choose deliberately whether the web interface should be available only on the host, across your local network, or through a domain. The README’s examples use port 3001 and include a localhost-only bind; it also links to separate guidance for reverse-proxy scenarios. Follow that guidance for proxy configuration instead of assuming that the feature mention alone specifies a secure setup.
The project also links to update instructions. Consult those official instructions when updating; the README reviewed here does not establish a step-by-step upgrade procedure. Whichever installation method you choose, assign responsibility for maintaining the host, persistent data, and application updates.

Quick Recap
What you need to get started
- A computer or server you can keep running; a dedicated mini PC is not required by the project documentation.
- Docker and Compose for the Compose route, or the listed Node.js and Git prerequisites for a non-Docker installation.
- Persistent local storage or a Docker volume for the application data; not NFS.
- A decision about whether port 3001 should be local-only or reachable from other devices.
