To delete an HBO Max account, now labeled Max in the cited help instructions, cancel its subscription through the company that bills it and wait until the subscription expires. Then submit a deletion request in the Max app under Privacy & Legal > Delete My Account or at max.com/account-delete, and confirm it using the email Max sends. Max says eligible accounts are usually deleted within 4 to 5 weeks.
Before deleting your account
Account deletion and subscription cancellation are separate steps. A deletion request does not replace cancellation, and Max says you must wait until the subscription has expired before submitting the request. You can continue streaming until the paid period ends after cancellation. The instructions below use the name Max, as shown in the cited Max Help Center pages; exact provider options and labels may vary by location.
- Uninstalling the app does not cancel the subscription.
- Cancel with the company that bills you, not necessarily through Max.
- Wait until the subscription expires, then submit the deletion request and confirm it by email.
Step 1: Find who bills your subscription
Open the Max app and view your account’s Subscription screen, or visit max.com/subscription. The screen identifies the billing provider. If you cannot tell who charges you, check your bank statement or ask your internet, mobile, or TV provider whether it bills your Max subscription. See the Max Help Center cancellation guide for provider-specific instructions.
Step 2: Cancel through the billing provider
If Max bills you directly, sign in at max.com/subscription and select Cancel Your Subscription. If another provider appears on the Subscription screen, cancel through that provider’s account or help center. Depending on your location and billing arrangement, the provider may be an app store, a platform, or an internet, mobile, or TV company.

Max subscriptions automatically renew until canceled. Cancel before your next billing date to avoid another charge. The Max Help Center cautions: “Deleting the Max app does not cancel your subscription.”
Step 3: Wait for the subscription to expire
After cancellation, you can keep watching until the current subscription period ends. Max says the account deletion request can be submitted only after the subscription has expired. If the Subscription screen shows that access is still active, wait until the listed period ends before proceeding.

Step 4: Submit and confirm the deletion request
- On a phone or tablet: Sign in to the Max app, choose a profile, then select Privacy & Legal > Delete My Account. The app opens the request form in a browser.
- On a computer: Go to max.com/account-delete.
- Enter the information associated with the account and submit the form.
- Open the email from Max with the subject “Your request to delete your account”, then select Delete My Account to confirm. Submitting the form without confirming the email does not complete the process.
Max says eligible accounts are usually deleted within 4 to 5 weeks. That is an estimate, not a guaranteed completion deadline. Max says it will email you when deletion is complete. What account deletion changes
- The Max app remains installed on your devices; deletion removes the account, not the app. Max’s help page states, “Deleting your account will not delete the app from any devices.”
- If you create a new account using the same email address, it will not recover the old account’s settings, downloads, or watch history.
If something goes wrong
You deleted the app but are still being charged
Removing the app does not stop recurring billing. Check the Subscription screen or your payment records to identify the biller, then cancel with that provider.

You cannot find a cancellation button
Check the Subscription screen to see who bills the account. If the provider is not Max, use that provider’s cancellation process rather than looking for a Max cancellation control.
You want Max to delete personal information
Max distinguishes account deletion from an Individual Rights Request for access to or deletion of personal information. Its privacy-options article describes that separate request route and says the subscription must be canceled before requesting deletion. Consult the Max privacy-options instructions for the relevant form and privacy-policy details.
