Create a Spotify playlist from Create on mobile or from Your Library on desktop, then add tracks from the playlist or a song’s menu. Saving a playlist adds it to Your Library; it is different from liking individual songs. The steps below also explain how to edit the track list, control who can access a playlist, and restore one you deleted.
Create a playlist
Spotify’s controls differ between its mobile and tablet apps and its desktop app or web player. Follow the instructions for the device you’re using. Spotify’s current steps are documented in its Create and edit playlists help page.
On a phone or tablet
- Tap Create.
- Select Playlist.
- Enter a name, then tap Create.
- When prompted, choose Add to this playlist to add music or browse Spotify’s recommendations.
On desktop or the web player
- Open Your Library.
- Click Create, then choose Playlist.
- Enter a name and edit any other available details.
- Click Save.
Spotify also documents keyboard shortcuts for starting a playlist: Cmd-N on Mac and Ctrl-N on Windows.
Add songs to a playlist
You can add music while viewing the playlist or by choosing the playlist from a track’s menu.

On a phone or tablet
- Open the playlist and tap Add.
- Alternatively, open a song’s menu, tap Add to Playlist, choose the destination playlist, and tap Done.
On desktop or the web player
- Right-click a track or open its menu, select Add to Playlist, and choose a playlist.
- You can also drag a track into a playlist.
Edit or reorder playlist tracks
On a phone or tablet
Open the playlist and tap Edit to remove tracks. Spotify’s current help instructions say that reordering tracks by tapping, holding, and dragging is available on mobile only with Premium.
On desktop or the web player
To remove a track, open its menu and choose the removal option. To change the order, drag tracks into the positions you want.

Save a playlist—and know what that saves
Select Add or Save on a playlist to add it to Your Library. This saves the playlist for access from your library; it does not automatically add every song in it to Liked Songs. Spotify’s Your Library guidance also notes that saving an album or artist does not automatically save every song on it.
Some playlists update regularly. Spotify says its playlist-saving feature does not let you save or recover a particular version of a playlist. To keep the current tracks in a separate playlist, use Add to other playlist; to keep individual songs, save them to Liked Songs. See Spotify’s Save and recover playlists guidance.

Restore a deleted playlist
If you deleted a playlist within the last 90 days, Spotify says you can restore it from Recover playlists. After restoration, it appears at the bottom of your playlist collection.

These settings control different things: who can access a playlist, whether it appears on your profile, and whether other people can edit its tracks. Spotify’s documented defaults and controls are summarized below.

For a private playlist you want to share with selected people, Spotify documents a share link that grants view access and expires after 7 days. That is separate from collaboration: a view link does not grant the ability to edit tracks.
