PeepSo adds community features such as member profiles, activity streams, groups, pages, and messaging to WordPress. To make a community private, decide which parts members should be able to see: individual posts, selected groups, or the entire site. Those are separate access controls—private posts and groups do not, by themselves, make every WordPress page or media file inaccessible to logged-out visitors.
Choose what “private” means for your community
Before configuring PeepSo, define the access you want. A member-only activity feed is different from a private group, and both are different from a website that blocks all visitors who are not logged in.
- Member-only posts: PeepSo describes post visibility options including Public, Members Only, Friends, and Only Me. The PeepSo Android app listing showed an update date of August 27, 2026; available choices may depend on the site’s setup.
- Private or secret groups: PeepSo’s 4.0 release announcement says posts in these groups are visible only to group members. That describes group content, not every page on the WordPress site.
- Controlled registration: You may want people to register freely, require administrator approval, or purchase a membership. PeepSo’s 1.9.1 announcement refers to closed groups that require users to be accepted, but it is historical and does not confirm the current settings or menu labels.
- Whole-site access: Blocking logged-out visitors from all pages and files is a site-wide access question. The cited PeepSo material does not establish the current steps for doing this.
Write down which content must be private and who should be allowed to access it. This makes it easier to choose the right controls and test for gaps.
Set up WordPress and PeepSo as the foundation
PeepSo is a social-networking plugin for WordPress. Its demo describes community features including profiles, activity streams, groups, pages, and messaging. First establish the WordPress site, then configure PeepSo’s community features around the member experience you want.

Configure privacy in separate layers
Set post visibility
Use post-level visibility for updates that should not be public. The options described in PeepSo’s app listing include Members Only, Friends, and Only Me, as well as Public. Confirm how the setting works on your own site and whether it applies to the types of posts your community uses.

Choose group visibility and membership rules
Use private or secret groups when discussion should be limited to group members. Decide separately whether members can join immediately or must be accepted. The historical PeepSo announcement about closed groups is evidence of an approval model, not a current setup guide, so verify available controls in current documentation.
Decide how people become members
Registration policy determines who can join the community; post and group visibility determine what members can see. Set the registration or approval process to match your intended audience, and check that it does not grant access more broadly than you want.

Handle site-wide and page access separately
Do not assume that restricting PeepSo posts or groups also protects ordinary WordPress pages, search results, or uploaded media. The sources here do not confirm the current procedure for making an entire WordPress site private. Before promising full-site privacy, check current documentation for the access method you plan to use and test the pages and files that matter.
Use membership levels for selected private groups if needed
If the community has paid or tiered access, PeepSo’s Paid Memberships Pro integration describes a way to require a membership level for selected private groups and associate groups with levels. The catalog says the Paid Memberships Pro plugin is required.

- Administrator: Confirm you can manage the community and review the intended visibility settings.
- Regular member: Check the activity feed, selected posts, groups, pages, and messaging available to a typical member.
- Member without a required level: If using membership-gated groups, verify that this account cannot enter groups reserved for another level.
- Logged-out visitor: Open the site in a private browser window or sign out. Test the home page, relevant WordPress pages, community areas, search results, and media URLs you intend to protect.
If a logged-out visitor can reach something that should be private, identify which access layer controls it and adjust that layer. Repeat the checks after changing settings or adding membership levels.
