How to Create a Poll on Facebook

This Itechguide teaches you how to create a poll on Facebook. You can create a poll on Facebook from a Facebook page or a Group – but not from your personal profile.

Option 1: Create a Poll from a PC or Mac

This section has two sub-sections – 1. steps to create a poll for a Page – 2. steps to create a poll for a Group.

Method 1: Create a Poll on Facebook Page

• Open Facebook.com from your PC and login with your Facebook account.
• Then, on the top right of your Facebook News Feed, click the drop-down arrow and select Manage Pages.

• Click the Facebook Page you want to create a poll on.

• When the page opens, scroll down to Write a post. Then, beneath Write a post box, click the 3 dots and select Poll.

• When Facebook poll opens, type a question. Then add your answers.

• By default your poll will expire in 1 Week but you can modify this. To change when your poll expires, click the 1 week drop-down. Then select one of the options. If you do not want the poll to expire, select Never. You may also add your own expiry time by clicking Custom.

• If you want to post the poll immediately click Share Now. Alternatively, you may schedule it to go live on a later date, backdate it or even save as draft. To do any of these, click Share Now drop-down. Then make your selection and complete the steps based on the selection you made.

Method 2: Create a Poll on Facebook Group

• Open Facebook.com from your PC and login with your Facebook account.
• Then, on the top right of your Facebook News Feed, click the drop-down arrow and select Manage Groups.

• Then, on the left pane of the page, beneath Groups you manage click on the group you want to create a Poll.

• Finally, when the group opens, beneath Write something…click the 3 dots. Then select Poll.

• When the Poll options opens, click on the Ask something… field.

• The Poll will now be displayed as a pop up. On the pop up, type the question you want to ask, then include your options.

• When you finish adding the details of your Poll, you could either post it straightaway or schedule it for another date. To schedule the Poll, click the clock icon beside the group name.

• Finally, select a date and time you want the Poll to go live. Then click Schedule.

Option 2: Create a Poll from the Android App

• Open the Facebook App on your Android phone. Then login with your Facebook account.

• On the top right of the App, tap the 3 horizontal lines. Then tap Groups.

• When Facebook Groups opens, on the top left tap Your groups. From the Groups listed below Your groups, you could also click the group you want to create a Poll on.

• When you have opened the Facebook Group, click on Share something with the group…

• Then scroll down and select Poll.

• Finally, when the Poll details opens, on the Ask a question form, enter the question you want to ask in the poll. Then add the options for your poll respondents. To add more options, click Add Options. You could also tap the gear beside Add Options to modify the options available to the respondents.

• When you finish, on the top right of the app, click POST. If you want to post on a different date, tap the Schedule drop-down and select the time and date to post.

Option 3: Create a Poll from the iPhone App

• Open the Facebook App on your iPhone and login with your Facebook account.

• Beneath the App, tap the 3 lines. Then tap Groups. If the Facebook group is listed, you could also click it directly.

• Finally, beneath Your Groups, tap the group you want to create a Poll on.

• The iPhone App offers two options to create a poll on Facebook Group. You could tap on Write something or tap the 3 dots beside it.

• If you tap on Write something, scroll down and tap Poll. But if you tap on the 3 dots, tap Create a poll. Either of them will produce the same result.

• When the poll details opens, add a question. Then add your options. To add an option, tap Add a poll option…To add additional option, tap Done.

• You could modify the options available to the respondents by tapping the gear beside Add a poll option.

• When you finish, to post the poll immediately tap Post. Or, to schedule the post, tap the Schedule drop-down.
