To create a folder on a Samsung tablet, first decide what it should hold: app icons or stored files. For an app folder, drag one app onto another on the Home or Apps screen. For a file folder, open My Files, choose a destination, and use the three-dot menu to create it.
Which kind of folder do you want?
| Folder type | Where you create it | What it does |

| App folder | Home screen or Apps screen | Groups app icons for easier access; it does not store documents or photos. |
| File folder | A location in My Files, such as Internal Storage | Stores and organizes files such as photos, downloads, and documents. |
A shortcut to a My Files folder on the Home screen is different from an app folder: it opens a storage folder rather than grouping app icons.
Create a folder for apps
- Go to the Home screen. If the app you want is not there, open the Apps screen; on supported layouts, swipe up from the bottom.
- Touch and hold an app icon, then drag it onto another app icon.
- Release the icon. When the folder opens, tap its name field, enter a name, and tap Done on the keyboard if that control appears.
- To add more apps, drag them into the folder, or open the folder and use its Add or plus control to select apps.
Samsung Gulf’s tablet guidance describes the core gesture this way: “Touch and hold an app, then drag it onto another app to create a folder.” Some Galaxy devices also offer a selection-based option: touch and hold an app, choose Select, select apps, then choose Create folder. That option is not documented as available on every tablet. Folder-color controls may also appear on some interfaces.

Create a folder for files in My Files
- Open My Files.
- Open the location where you want the folder, such as Internal Storage.
- Tap the three-dot More options menu.
- Choose Create folder or Create new folder.
- Enter a name, then tap Create or OK, depending on the screen.
The folder is created in the location you opened. To put existing items in it, find the file or files in My Files and touch and hold to select them. Choose Move or Copy, navigate to the new folder, and confirm with Move here, Copy here, or Paste, as shown on your tablet.

Add a My Files folder shortcut to the Home screen
Samsung Australia documents this regional, device-dependent route: in My Files, open the storage location, touch and hold the folder, tap More, choose Add to Home screen, then tap Add. This creates a shortcut to the storage folder, not a folder that groups apps.
If the options look different
Samsung notes that file-management paths and screens can vary by model, software, and app version. If a label in these steps is missing, check the equivalent menu on your tablet; the wording and controls may differ. The detailed Home-screen shortcut steps above come from Samsung Australia and may not apply to every regional variant.
