For a crisp-bottomed frozen pizza, follow the pizza package and air-fryer-oven manual, remove every bit of packaging, and use the rack position the manual specifies. Start checking before the listed cook time is up: oven design, wattage, and crust thickness all affect the result, so no single temperature and time works for every pizza.
Start with the pizza and oven instructions
Check both the frozen pizza package and your oven manual before cooking. KitchenAid specifically recommends following the package directions for frozen pizza, while its countertop oven’s own Pizza preset is 400°F (204°C) for 17 minutes. That preset is for that appliance, not a universal air-fryer conversion. The manual may also specify a rack position or accessory for your model.
Remove plastic wrap, cardboard, and all other packaging. Dr. Oetker and JACK’S both instruct users to remove packaging before cooking. Place the pizza on the rack or cooking surface directed by your oven manual; do not assume every model should use a basket, solid tray, or pizza stone.

Use a practical method to avoid a soggy base
- Read the package and manual. Use their temperature, cooking mode, rack position, and timing as your starting point.
- Remove all packaging. Do not cook the pizza on its cardboard base unless the product and appliance instructions expressly say to do so.
- Cook with airflow in mind. Use the recommended rack and keep the oven’s air path clear. Dr. Oetker’s Canadian guidance uses the middle rack for its Ristorante pizza and cautions that aluminum foil may lower crust quality. Follow your own product’s instructions about foil and accessories.
- Check before the time is up. Especially on the first cook, begin checking 1–2 minutes early, as Dr. Oetker recommends for users new to its air-fryer guidance. Look for melted cheese and a browned crust, and follow the package’s directions for doneness and food safety.
- Let the pizza stand if instructed. Resting time can be part of a recipe; for example, Breville’s named recipe below calls for a two-minute stand.
Why cooking time changes from one pizza to another
Crust style and thickness
A thin hand-tossed pizza heats differently from a rising, stuffed, or deep-dish crust. KitchenAid notes that thick-crust, self-rising, or deep-dish pizzas may need longer. Breville’s recipes for different DiGiorno styles use notably different main cooking times even though they share the same oven setting.

Air-fryer oven and cooking mode
Air-fryer ovens vary in size, design, and wattage. Their pizza settings may combine top and bottom heat, convection, or a finishing broil. Use the mode named in the appliance or recipe instructions rather than assuming that a temperature from another oven will behave the same way.
Rack, tray, and stone choices
Use the rack position in the manual or product directions. A stone is not automatically required: KitchenAid’s stone guidance applies to its own countertop oven, while Dr. Oetker’s cited air-fryer instructions use the middle rack and warn against foil because it may reduce crust quality. If you use an accessory, make sure it is approved for your model and does not block airflow.

| Breville Test Kitchen, US: DiGiorno Rising Crust Original Supreme in the Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro | Pizza/Super Convection at 365°F for 16 minutes, turn with 5 minutes left in the main phase, then high broil for 2 minutes. | Breville Test Kitchen, US: DiGiorno Hand Tossed Pepperoni | Pizza/Super Convection at 365°F for 11 minutes, then high broil for 2 minutes. | Its shorter main phase illustrates how crust style and product matter. |
| Dr. Oetker Canada: Ristorante pizza in an air fryer/toaster oven | Preheat to 425°F (218°C), remove packaging, and cook on the middle rack for 9 minutes, checking early. The brand’s tested ranges vary by wattage and pizza; its stated target is 160°F (71°C). | Canadian product guidance, not a universal time or safety target. Dr. Oetker also cautions that foil may lower crust quality. |
| KitchenAid countertop oven frozen Pizza function | Preset: 400°F (204°C) for 17 minutes. | Appliance-specific preset. KitchenAid recommends checking the pizza package directions; thicker crusts may need longer. |
If the top is done before the crust
Do not simply keep using a setting that browns the toppings while leaving the base soft. Check that you used the package’s recommended cooking mode and the oven’s specified rack position, and make sure no foil or solid accessory is interfering with the appliance’s airflow. On a later cook, adjust only within the package and appliance guidance, checking early so the cheese does not overcook. If the package and oven manual give conflicting instructions, use the product-specific cooking and safety directions rather than borrowing a setting from another brand’s recipe.

Check doneness and food safety
Visual cues such as melted cheese and a browned crust can help you judge progress, but use the product package for its required doneness and safety directions. Safety targets are not interchangeable across brands: Dr. Oetker’s cited Canadian instructions specify 160°F (71°C), while JACK’S instructions may state a different target. Apply the target given for the pizza you are cooking, not a figure copied from another product.
