You can move Anki note content into Notion by exporting it from Anki as plain text, preparing the fields as a CSV file, and importing that CSV as a Notion database. This transfers note data—not Anki’s review scheduling or card behavior—so test a small sample before converting a whole collection.
What transfers from Anki to Notion?
Anki separates notes from cards: a note stores fields, and card templates use those fields to generate cards. The CSV workflow moves the note fields into Notion; it does not recreate Anki’s flashcard templates, review history, or scheduling system. See the Anki Manual’s explanation of notes and cards.
The reviewed official guides document a file-based route rather than a native Anki-to-Notion importer. Anki can export note data as text, and Notion can import CSV files as databases. An .apkg is intended for transferring decks between Anki collections, and Notion’s import guide does not list it as an import format.
Choose a Notion format
| Format | What you get | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| CSV | Each row becomes a database item or page; each column becomes a database property. | Filtering, sorting, and searching separate fields such as front, back, deck, or tags. |
| Text or Markdown | Imported pages rather than a structured database of cards. | A page-oriented collection or notes whose prose structure matters more than database filtering. |
Notion documents both CSV and text/Markdown import options in its data import guide. Choose based on the structure you want and how much formatting or media you need to preserve.

Convert Anki notes to a Notion database
1. Pick the notes to move
In Anki, identify the deck or notes you want in Notion. Decide which fields matter in the destination—for example, a prompt, answer, extra explanation, and tags. Because notes can generate multiple cards through templates, consider whether you want one Notion row per note rather than a separate row for each generated card.
2. Export notes as plain text
- In Anki, choose File > Export.
- Select Notes in Plain Text as the export format and choose the relevant notes or deck.
- Save the exported file. Anki’s text export uses tabs to separate fields, and formatting may be embedded as HTML. The exact available labels can vary with Anki version; consult the Anki Manual’s Exporting page.
Do not treat this tab-separated export as a finished CSV without checking its structure. A CSV needs a clear header row and properly delimited fields.

- Premium Thick Paper: 180gsm weight resists bleed-through and withstands frequent handling
- Key Ring Design: Perfect for attaching to bags, backpacks, or keys - always have your notes handy
- 5 Color Assortment: Choose from 5 vibrant colors (purple, blue, green, pink, white) to suit your style and organizational needs
- Generous Quantity: 50 sheets per color (totaling 250 cards) provides plenty of space for all your notes
- Ideal Size: The 3x5 inch size index card is perfect for quick jotting, to-do lists, flashcards
3. Prepare and save a CSV
- Open the exported text in a spreadsheet or text editor that can preserve tab-separated columns.
- Check that each note’s fields occupy their own columns. Add clear headers that match your note type, such as
Front,Back,Extra, andTags. - Save or export the cleaned data as CSV. Check that commas inside field values and any quoted line breaks remain inside the correct cell.
- Keep a copy of the original Anki export so you can correct the CSV if the import looks wrong.
These are practical file-preparation steps; Anki and Notion do not publish a dedicated conversion recipe that guarantees every note type will map cleanly.
4. Import the CSV into Notion
- On Notion desktop or web, open Settings > Import > CSV, or type
/csvin a page. - Upload the prepared CSV.
- Choose whether to create a new database or import into an existing database, then select the destination location.
- Map each CSV column to the appropriate Notion property and complete the import.
Notion’s import instructions describe the row-to-item and column-to-property mapping. Imports are available on desktop and web, not mobile; file-size limits vary by file type and plan.
5. Check a sample before importing everything
First import a small, representative CSV. Inspect the resulting pages and properties for:
- Front, back, extra, and tag values in the intended columns.
- Special characters, commas, and line breaks that may have shifted or split fields.
- HTML formatting and cloze notation, to see whether they display usefully.
- Images and audio, if your notes contain them.
The official documentation does not guarantee how every Anki note type, cloze, HTML element, or media reference will render in Notion. If the sample is acceptable, proceed with the rest; otherwise, adjust the CSV or choose a page-oriented import for content where structure and formatting matter more.

What happens to images, audio, and formatting?
Anki’s plain-text export can contain HTML and references to media. Anki’s text-file documentation notes that media files need to be present in Anki’s collection media folder for text imports. Notion’s CSV guide does not establish that those references will resolve automatically in a database import. Check media individually and upload or reattach files in Notion if needed.
Since HTML and card-specific formatting may not display as intended after conversion, decide whether the content is usable in a database before migrating a large collection. For notes that depend on longer prose or formatting, importing text or Markdown as pages may be a better fit than forcing all content into database properties.
Avoid duplicate rows when retrying
Notion says CSV imports add rows rather than update existing rows. If an import needs to be repeated, use a fresh database for a clean import or check for duplicates before trying again. The behavior is described in Notion’s CSV import guidance.
What this conversion does not preserve
The result is a Notion collection of migrated note content, not a working Anki deck. The reviewed documentation does not establish that Anki review scheduling, history, templates, or card behavior transfer into Notion. Keep using Anki for spaced-repetition reviews, or plan separately how you will study the imported material.
