Safari can convert a webpage to a PDF without a printer or extra app. On a Mac, open the page, choose File > Print, then select Save as PDF. On iPhone or iPad, use Share > Markup > Done, then save the document to Files. Markup is optional, so you can save a plain page or annotate it first.
Save a Safari webpage as a PDF on Mac
- Open the webpage in Safari and wait for the content you need to appear.
- Choose File > Print from the menu bar. You can also use the standard print shortcut, then continue in the system print dialog.
- In the print dialog, click the PDF button or open the PDF pop-up menu and choose Save as PDF.
- Enter a filename, choose a folder, and click Save.
The result is a PDF file on your Mac; no printer has to be installed or connected. Safari sends the page through macOS’s print layout, so the PDF reflects the print version rather than a screenshot of the browser window.
Protect the Mac PDF with a password
Before saving, open Security Options in the PDF controls. macOS can require a password to open the PDF, copy text or images, and print the document. Use protection only when it serves a real need: password restrictions can make legitimate sharing and accessibility harder.
Improve the output before exporting
- Use Safari’s Reader view when available for an article with distracting navigation or advertisements. Exporting the Reader view creates a simpler document.
- Scroll through long pages first if the site loads content as you move down. Otherwise, sections or images that have not loaded may not be present in the PDF.
- Check the print preview for clipped tables, very wide content, or page breaks before clicking Save.
Convert a webpage to PDF on iPhone
- Open the page in Safari.
- Tap the Page Menu or Share button.
- Tap Markup. If you want a plain PDF, you can still continue without drawing or writing.
- Annotate with the pen, highlighter, text, signature, shapes, or eraser tools if needed.
- Tap Done, choose Save to Files, select a location, name the file, and tap Save.
Open the Files app afterward to find the PDF in the folder you selected. Markup changes the saved document, not the original webpage.

Convert a webpage to PDF on iPad
- Open the webpage in Safari.
- Tap Share.
- Tap Markup. Depending on the iPadOS version and available extensions, it may appear under More or View More.
- Add optional notes, highlights, drawings, or a signature.
- Tap Done, choose Save File To, select a destination, name the PDF, and save it.
The iPad wording differs slightly from iPhone: the destination command is usually Save File To, while iPhone shows Save to Files. Both workflows create a PDF you can open and share from Files.
Choose the right Safari PDF workflow
| Goal | Mac | iPhone or iPad |
|---|---|---|
| Save a local PDF | File > Print > Save as PDF | Share > Markup > Done > Save to Files/Save File To |
| Annotate before saving | Use a PDF editor after export or annotate the saved file | Markup is built into the Share workflow |
| Password controls | Security Options can restrict opening, copying, or printing | No equivalent controls are provided by this Safari workflow |
| Send by email | Use File > Share and choose Mail | Save to Files first, then share the PDF from Files or the Share sheet |
Email a Safari webpage as a PDF on Mac
Safari’s File > Share command (or the Share button) can open Mail with the current page. Mail lets you choose whether to send the content as a webpage, PDF, link, or Reader article when the page qualifies as an article. Select PDF, add recipients, and send. This is useful when the recipient needs a document attachment rather than a live URL.
If Mail is not configured, save the PDF first with File > Print > Save as PDF, then attach it in whichever mail service you use.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesCan you annotate a Safari webpage before saving?
Yes. On iPhone and iPad, Share > Markup opens annotation tools before the file is saved. You can highlight passages, draw, write notes, add text, insert a signature, and use shapes. Tap Done when finished, then save the PDF. Annotation is optional; opening Markup does not require you to add an ink mark.

On Mac, the built-in Safari export is primarily a print-to-PDF operation. For annotations, save the PDF and open it in an application that supports PDF markup, such as Preview, then save the edited file.
What Safari includes—and what it does not
- Included: PDF export on Mac, PDF creation through Markup on iPhone and iPad, optional annotations on mobile, and Mac security controls.
- Not required: a physical printer, a browser extension, or a separate PDF-conversion app.
- Not guaranteed: interactive webpage behavior, videos, animations, login sessions, or live forms will work inside the static PDF.
A PDF captures a document view at export time. Links may remain clickable, but scripts, shopping carts, embedded media, and changing data should be treated as non-interactive unless you verify the saved file.
Troubleshoot Safari webpage-to-PDF problems
The Save as PDF option is missing on Mac
Make sure you are in Safari’s system print dialog, not a website’s custom print window. Choose File > Print again and look for the PDF button or PDF pop-up menu, normally near the bottom of the dialog. If the dialog is simplified, expand it to reveal the PDF controls.

Return to Safari, reload the page, and wait for images and dynamically inserted text to finish loading. Scroll through a long page to trigger lazy-loaded content, then print again. A sign-in wall, bot check, or script-dependent page may not expose its content to the print renderer.

Images or tables are cut off
Check the print preview, reduce the scale if the dialog offers a scaling control, or switch the page to Reader view. Very wide tables may need a landscape layout or separate exports. For a critical record, compare every page of the PDF with the source before sharing.
Markup is not visible on iPhone or iPad
Open the Share sheet and look for Markup directly or under More/View More. iOS and iPadOS can reorder actions, so adding Markup to Favorites may make it easier to find. Tap Done after editing; leaving the sheet without Done discards the annotation session.
The file cannot be found
In the save dialog, note the selected location before tapping Save. Then open Files and check Recents, On My iPhone/iPad, and iCloud Drive, as well as the folder you selected. On Mac, search the filename in Finder if you forgot the destination.
Or skip the browser setup
If you need repeatable, server-side captures instead of a one-off Safari document, ScreenshotNeo returns a webpage screenshot or PDF from one request. It accepts the consent banner like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each cleanup step can be disabled. Bot checks, CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and the response identifies the result with X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. An MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients.
For a PDF, send a GET request to the API endpoint. The API supports paper size, margins, landscape mode, page ranges, waits, cookies, headers, custom JavaScript and CSS, and other capture controls documented at ScreenshotNeo’s documentation.
