To convert a Mexican share price from pesos (MXN), first identify how the exchange rate is quoted. Multiply the share price by a rate expressed as destination-currency units per MXN; divide by a rate expressed as MXN per one unit of your currency. For example, with a USD/MXN rate stated in pesos per U.S. dollar, divide the MXN quote by that rate.

Convert the quote using the rate’s units

Let P be the quoted share price in Mexican pesos. The direction of the rate determines whether to multiply or divide:

  • Rate is destination currency per MXN: destination-currency price = P × rate.
  • Rate is MXN per destination-currency unit: destination-currency price = P ÷ rate.

Check that the MXN units cancel in the calculation. If a quote says how many pesos equal one U.S. dollar—MXN per USD—divide the share price in pesos by that rate to get dollars.

Banco de México’s educational material defines an exchange rate as “The exchange rate is the price of one unit of foreign currency expressed in terms of the national currency.” Its example uses 11 pesos per dollar: 100 dollars equal 1,100 pesos, and 1,100 pesos divided by 11 equals 100 dollars. That is an instructional example, not a current exchange rate.

Choose a rate that matches your comparison

Exchange rates change, so use a rate whose date and purpose fit the stock quote you are comparing. Label the currency pair, quote direction, source, and observation date beside the converted amount.

Rate choice What it represents When it can help
FIX Banco de México says FIX is determined from an average of wholesale-market quotations for transactions payable in 48 hours. It is made available from noon on banking business days and published in the Official Gazette one banking business day after determination. A published reference rate, when its definition and timing suit the comparison. It is not necessarily a retail broker’s execution rate. Banco de México rate information.
Mexican peso closing foreign exchange rate Calculated from a weighted sample between 1:55 p.m. and 2:05 p.m.; published at 2:10 p.m. on banking business days. A reference for a comparison where that closing-rate method and timestamp are appropriate. It is distinct from FIX and from a live broker quote. Banco de México rate information.
Historical USD/MXN series Banco de México provides a daily historical series with notes about how it was constructed. Useful when comparing a past stock quote: select an exchange-rate observation from the same date where possible, and identify the series used. Banco de México historical series and metadata.
Broker’s applied rate The rate and any spread, fees, or processing details depend on the brokerage and transaction. Use the broker’s own terms or transaction preview to estimate what will actually be charged; a published reference rate does not establish the broker’s rate.

Banxico’s FIX and closing series are not interchangeable. For a past-price comparison, avoid applying today’s rate to an old MXN quote unless you clearly identify the result as a conversion at today’s rate rather than a same-date comparison.

Converting to a currency other than U.S. dollars

For euros, Canadian dollars, or another destination currency, use a rate stated directly in the direction needed for the calculation, or convert using a clearly identified cross-rate method. Banxico describes its published cross rates for currencies other than USD as informational. Its portal says those rates are constructed using FIX and market-average USD equivalents for EUR and JPY published by the IMF, with Reuters data used on some U.S. holidays; it identifies a separate source for CAD. The July 31, 2026 Official Gazette notice says equivalence of the peso with other foreign currencies is calculated using the market quote for those currencies against USD on the payment date.

These reference methods do not determine the rate your brokerage will use. State the destination currency, rate source, date, and methodology so readers can tell what the converted figure represents.

What a converted stock quote does—and does not—tell you

The result is a translated share price, not a complete measure of your investment cost or return. It does not include share-price movement, dividends, taxes, trading commissions, currency-conversion fees, spreads, or any depositary-receipt fees.

Nor does a converted price show that your brokerage lets you buy the Mexican listing. Banco de México notes that Mexican shares may also be bought in U.S. markets through American Depositary Receipts (ADRs), but availability depends on the broker and security. A currency conversion alone does not establish that an ADR matches the local listing in price, rights, fees, or liquidity. See Banco de México’s financial-system educational material.
