On a Pixel phone, open the Now Playing app and tap History to review, remove, favorite, or share recognized songs. To stop future recognition, open the app’s Settings and tap Disable Now Playing. Phone diagnostics and Google Account activity have separate controls, and Google’s current help pages do not document a Pixel Watch Now Playing history screen or phone-history sync.

Find, search, or remove Now Playing history on a Pixel phone

  1. Open the Now Playing app.
  2. Tap History to see recognized tracks.
  3. To manage a track, select it and use its More menu, or swipe left. Google documents options to favorite, remove, or share a song, and to open it in a connected music service.

You can search the list by text or narrow it using date and time filters. These controls manage the song list displayed in the Now Playing app.

Turn off Now Playing recognition

  1. Open the Now Playing app.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Disable Now Playing.

To enable recognition again, return to the same settings area. Google says Now Playing moved from Pixel settings into the app, so older app or software versions may show a different location. If you cannot find the app or menu, check Play Store for the Google Now Playing app and allow for a possible version difference; Google says first use after installation may take up to 24 hours.

What Now Playing sends to Google

Automatic recognition uses an on-device music library. If local recognition does not identify a song, or the app requests additional song details, Now Playing may make an optional cloud request. Google Pixel Phone Help, in “Find out what music is playing near you,” says: “The app collects and sends a short digital audio fingerprint of the song to Google.” It also says: “It doesn’t send raw audio or background conversations to Google.” Google says the fingerprints are used to recognize music and are not stored on its server or shared with Google or third-party services.

The separate Show search button on lock screen is optional. Tapping it initiates a search and sends a short digital audio fingerprint to identify the song. This is distinct from saying that every automatic identification streams raw microphone audio.

Now Playing, diagnostics, and Account activity are different controls

These settings address different things. Disabling Now Playing stops the feature; Usage & diagnostics controls sharing of device usage and diagnostic information; Google Account activity is managed through account-level history settings. Changing one is not a substitute for changing the others.

Disable Now Playing Stops Now Playing recognition on the phone. Now Playing app → Settings → Disable Now Playing Google’s cited guide does not describe this as changing phone diagnostics or Google Account activity.
Usage & diagnostics Controls sharing of phone usage and diagnostic information. Google says this sharing can include counts of recognized songs when enabled. Phone Settings → Security & Privacy → More security & privacy → Usage & diagnostics Google says turning it off does not affect information apps might collect; it also does not prevent essential Android updates.
Google Account activity Manages account-level history settings and saved activity. Google Account → Data & privacy → History settings; view or delete saved activity in My Activity The reviewed Google guidance does not say that deleting Account activity deletes the Now Playing app’s History list.

Google describes its Account activity controls as applying across signed-in devices. They are not the Now Playing app’s song-history screen.

Pixel Watch: the documented diagnostics setting

Google documents a separate diagnostics-report control for Pixel Watch in the paired Watch app:

  1. Open the paired Watch app.
  2. Tap Privacy & legal.
  3. Tap System privacy settings.
  4. Tap Usage & diagnostic reports and change the setting.

Google’s reviewed help pages do not document Now Playing song history on Pixel Watch, a Watch history screen, or synchronization of a Pixel phone’s Now Playing history to the watch. The Watch diagnostics option is a separate privacy control, not a documented way to view or delete the phone’s song list.
