If money you added to your Steam Wallet is not showing, verify the signed-in account, check your Wallet balance and purchase history, restart Steam, and then use Steam’s Wallet-funding support form if the balance is still wrong more than two hours after the completed purchase. A pending bank charge from a failed payment is a different issue: it may be a temporary authorization that your bank, not Steam, must release.
Start with the correct diagnosis
“Missing Wallet funds” can describe several different transaction states. The remedy depends on whether Steam recorded a completed Wallet purchase, the funds were spent afterward, a payment failed while the bank still shows a pending authorization, or a refund has not posted yet.

Do not assume a pending card entry proves that Steam received or retained Wallet money. A bank can display an authorization while a transaction is being checked or has already failed.

Confirm which account is signed in
Open Steam and identify the account currently signed in. Compare it with the account named on the purchase receipt or confirmation email. A purchase made for one Steam account will not appear in another account’s Wallet, even if the same computer, card, or email address is involved.

- Open the receipt and note the account name or account identifier shown for the transaction.
- In the Steam Client, check the account currently active before looking for the funds.
- If you use more than one account, sign out and check the account named on the receipt rather than relying on the account that opened automatically.
View the current Wallet balance
With the receipt’s account signed in, view the Wallet balance in the account interface. Record what the balance shows and when you checked it. This gives Support a precise before-and-after reference if the amount is still missing.
Wallet funds are normally used by default when you buy something through Steam. On the purchase confirmation screen, the payment method can be changed. If you left Wallet selected, a later game, downloadable-content purchase, in-game item, or other Steam transaction may have consumed the amount you thought was still available.
Inspect purchase history for an unrecognized use
- Open your Steam account menu.
- Select Account Details.
- Choose View purchase history.
- Find the Wallet-funding transaction and confirm its status and amount.
- Check entries made after the Wallet deposit for a purchase that may have used the balance.
Purchase history can explain an apparent disappearance even when the original Wallet deposit completed correctly. Compare the dates, totals, and payment methods shown for each entry. If you find a purchase you do not recognize, keep its details for the support request instead of assuming the Wallet deposit itself failed.

Restart Steam before opening a ticket
Exit the Steam Client completely and start it again. A restart is one of Steam’s first recommended checks for an incorrect Wallet display. After signing back in, view the balance again and compare it with the completed transaction in purchase history.
A restart can refresh the client’s account state, but it does not reverse a purchase or release a bank authorization. If the transaction is completed and the balance remains incorrect, use the support route after the applicable delay rather than repeatedly attempting the same payment.

When to contact Steam Support
Completed Wallet purchase with no balance
Steam’s Wallet guidance says to contact Steam Support when the balance remains incorrect more than two hours after you completed the purchase. The two-hour point applies to a completed Wallet-funding purchase; it is not a promise that every bank authorization, refund, or failed payment will resolve in that period.
Use Steam’s support flow for trouble adding funds to your Steam Wallet. Describe what happened in concrete terms: the purchase date and time, the amount, the account shown on the receipt, the balance you expected, and the balance currently displayed. Include the transaction information Support needs to locate the payment, but do not send passwords, full card numbers, security codes, or other credentials.

Finish email verification
The visible support form requires an email-verification step. Steam states that the Support team will not receive the message until you enter the verification code and click Send. Entering a description alone does not submit the request.
- Complete the Wallet-funding support form.
- Check the email account associated with the support request for Steam’s verification message.
- Copy the code into the form’s verification field.
- Click Send after the code is accepted.
- Save the confirmation or reference information displayed after submission.
If the code does not arrive, check spam or filtered folders, verify that the address is correct, and request a new code through the form. Do not submit multiple contradictory tickets while waiting for a verification message; keep one clear case tied to the transaction.
Prepare a support request that can be investigated
Have these details ready before you open the form:
- The receipt or confirmation for the Wallet purchase.
- The Steam account named on that receipt.
- The purchase date, approximate time, currency, and amount.
- The current Wallet balance and the balance you expected.
- The relevant entry from View purchase history.
- A short description of any later purchase that may have used Wallet funds.
- The exact wording of an error message if the payment failed.
Describe the sequence rather than only writing “my money is gone.” For example: “I added [amount] to the account shown on the receipt at [time]. The transaction appears in purchase history, but the Wallet balance is still [amount]. I restarted Steam and checked for later purchases.” Put variable information inside the fields themselves; do not include your Steam password or complete payment-card details.

If you attach a screenshot or file and the upload does not work, Steam’s displayed form advises using the Steam Client or updating your web browser. Crop images to the relevant transaction and balance information, and conceal unrelated personal data.
Separate a failed payment from missing Wallet credit
What a pending bank charge means
Some failed transactions create a temporary authorization or hold at the bank. Steam’s purchasing guidance says Steam does not collect that hold and that the bank’s process controls when the money is released. The pending line therefore is not proof that Steam added the amount to your Wallet or finally charged you.
Check the Steam transaction status and the bank’s status separately. If Steam shows a failed or incomplete purchase while the bank lists a pending authorization, ask the bank or card issuer whether the entry is an authorization hold, when it will expire, and whether any action is required. Steam cannot set the bank’s release schedule.
Possible release time
Steam notes that relevant bank holds can take up to 30 days to release, depending on the bank and its processes. That is a stated possibility for applicable failed-payment holds, not a universal deadline for every card, country, or payment method. If the entry changes from pending to posted, or remains beyond the bank’s stated process, contact the bank with the transaction reference and then contact Steam if Steam’s own purchase record is incorrect.
Do not pay again immediately
Before retrying a failed payment, establish whether the first attempt is still pending. A second attempt can create a second authorization or a duplicate purchase if the first transaction later completes. Check the account’s purchase history and the payment provider’s status first.

Handle an approved refund separately
Refund timing is different from an initial Wallet deposit. Steam’s refund guidance says approved credit to the Steam Wallet may take 24–48 hours to appear. Use that window only for an approved refund; it does not replace the two-hour guidance for a completed Wallet-funding purchase.
- Confirm that the refund is approved rather than merely requested.
- Check Account Details > View purchase history for the refund entry and its destination.
- Allow the stated 24–48-hour period for approved Wallet credit to appear.
- If an approved refund still has not appeared after seven days, follow Steam’s instruction to contact the bank directly where the original payment method is involved.
Keep the refund approval, original purchase, and payment-method details together. A refund sent back to a card or other payment method may not appear as a Wallet increase, so verify the destination shown in the transaction record.
A practical decision path
- Identify the transaction. Is it a completed Wallet deposit, a later purchase, a failed payment, or an approved refund?
- Verify the account. Match the receipt to the account currently signed in.
- Check the records. View the Wallet balance and purchase history.
- Refresh the client. Restart Steam and check again.
- Apply the right timing. Use the more-than-two-hour point for a completed Wallet deposit, the 24–48-hour window for approved Wallet refunds, or the bank’s process for a failed-payment hold.
- Escalate with evidence. Send one detailed Steam Support request, complete email verification, and retain the confirmation.
- Involve the bank when appropriate. Ask about a pending authorization or a refund that has not reached the original payment method.
Common mistakes that delay resolution
Checking the wrong account
A receipt-account mismatch is the fastest way to conclude incorrectly that funds vanished. Always use the account named on the receipt as the reference point.
Confusing Wallet spending with a failed deposit
A later purchase can reduce the balance automatically when Wallet is the selected payment method. Purchase history is more reliable than memory of the balance before the purchase.
Treating a pending authorization as a completed Steam charge
The bank’s pending label describes the bank’s view of the transaction. It does not establish that Steam received Wallet funds. Check Steam’s transaction status and ask the bank about the hold.

Submitting the form without the verification code
The support form explicitly says the message is not received until the code is entered and Send is clicked. A filled-in form is not the same as a submitted case.
Opening duplicate cases with different explanations
Multiple tickets can make the history harder to follow. Gather the receipt, account, balance, and purchase-history information first, then send one chronological description and add updates to that case when possible.
What to do if the balance changes while you wait
Record the new balance and the time it changed. Recheck purchase history for a newly posted purchase, refund, or adjustment. If the amount appears after you submit a ticket, update the existing request rather than opening a second one, explaining whether the final balance is now correct or only partially corrected.

Change your password and secure the account if you suspect unauthorized access, but keep the transaction evidence available for the investigation.

Using the right channel prevents a common dead end: Steam cannot force a bank to release a temporary authorization, while a bank cannot correct a Steam Wallet ledger that shows the wrong account or transaction status.
Questions to answer in your ticket
- Which Steam account is named on the receipt?
- Does the Wallet deposit appear as completed in purchase history?
- What balance did you expect, and what balance does Steam show now?
- Did any purchase occur after the deposit?
- Was the payment marked failed, pending, completed, refunded, or reversed?
- Have you restarted Steam and, if attachments failed, tried the Steam Client or an updated browser?
Answering these questions in order gives Support a transaction timeline instead of an ambiguous missing-money report. Keep the wording factual and include the exact error text where available.
