Zapier connects Buffer to other apps with workflows called Zaps: a trigger starts the workflow, then one or more actions follow. Choose the app and event that should start it, add Buffer as a trigger or action, connect your Buffer account through the OAuth prompt, map the fields, test with sample data, and turn the Zap on. Buffer’s developer guide says the connection uses OAuth and does not require an API key.
What the Zapier–Buffer integration does
Buffer describes Zapier as an official integration for connecting Buffer with other apps and automating workflows. For example, a new RSS item, form submission, or spreadsheet row can start a Zap that creates or queues content in Buffer. A Buffer event can also start a Zap that sends a notification or passes information to another app.
In Zapier, the trigger is the event that starts the workflow; the action is what happens afterward. Buffer can serve as either one, depending on the workflow. See Buffer’s Using Zapier with Buffer guide and Zapier’s Buffer app listing.

- Choose the starting event. In Zapier, start a new Zap and select the app and trigger event that should begin it—for example, a new RSS feed item. If Buffer should start the workflow, choose Buffer as the trigger app instead.
- Add Buffer where it belongs. Select Buffer as the action app to send content into Buffer, or as the trigger app when a Buffer event should initiate the workflow. Choose the specific event shown in your Zapier editor.
- Connect your Buffer account. When prompted, authorize the account through the displayed OAuth flow. Buffer’s developer guide says, “Connect Buffer to Zapier using OAuth. No API key needed.” Do not try to supply an API key for this connection. See the Buffer Developers Zapier guide.
- Configure, test, and activate. Map the source fields to the Buffer fields, test using the sample data available in Zapier, check the result in Buffer, then switch the Zap on. If the test produces the wrong text, destination, or content type, revise the field mapping or event selection before activation.
Buffer triggers and actions to look for
Zapier’s Buffer listing includes triggers for activity such as new drafts, queue items, sent items, ideas, channels, and tag activity. Listed actions include adding an item to a queue, creating an idea, and pausing a queue. These options can change, and the listing does not guarantee that every event is enabled for every account. Confirm the exact trigger or action in your Zapier editor before building around it.
#1 Best Overall
Pick the Buffer event that matches the result you need. Creating an idea is not the same as adding a post to a queue, and a queue action is not itself a promise that a post will publish immediately. The selected Buffer action and its configured destination determine what the Zap does.
Examples of useful workflows
Send RSS items to a Buffer queue
Set the RSS app’s new-item event as the trigger and Buffer’s queue action as the next step. Map the feed title and link to the appropriate post fields, then test with a real sample item. Buffer recommends using a separate Zap for each channel when distributing RSS content to multiple channels.
Rank #2
If an RSS item includes an image or video, Buffer’s guidance says the media needs a direct link. Check that the URL is directly accessible to Buffer rather than relying on a page that merely displays the media.
Turn form submissions or spreadsheet rows into Buffer content
Use a new form response or spreadsheet row as the trigger, then select an available Buffer action—such as creating an idea or adding an item to a queue. Map only the fields you want used in the Buffer item, and test with a submission or row that resembles the content you expect to process.
Rank #3
Notify another app when Buffer activity occurs
Choose a Buffer trigger for the relevant event, such as a sent item, then add an action in the destination app to send a notification or record the event. The trigger must be available in your editor, and the receiving app must have an appropriate action.

Check how often a trigger runs
Triggers may run by polling, which checks for new data periodically, or instantly when the app supports it. Zapier’s Buffer listing displays a 15-minute polling interval on the Free plan for listed triggers. Treat that as a plan- and listing-specific detail, not a guarantee for every trigger or account: confirm the current cadence and plan limits in your Zapier settings. Zapier explains the distinction in How Zap triggers work.
Rank #4
If an event is missing
Availability can vary, so check the live Zapier editor for the trigger or action you need. The official pages do not establish every user’s plan entitlements, task limits, or current pricing; verify those details in your account rather than assuming an event is included.

Quick Recap
Best Value
If authorization or a test fails
- Reconnect Buffer through Zapier’s displayed account-connection flow if the selected Buffer account is wrong or authorization needs refreshing. Zapier’s app connections guide explains account connections.
- Confirm the trigger has sample data and that the chosen action accepts the fields you mapped.
- For media, use a direct URL that Buffer can access.
- For distribution to multiple Buffer channels from RSS, configure a separate Zap per channel as Buffer recommends.
