RayNeo GT Max connects directly to a phone, laptop, or handheld only if that device’s USB-C port supports video output, such as DisplayPort Alt Mode. Use the USB-C cable included with the glasses. For an HDMI source, use RayNeo’s HDMI to Glasses and Charging Adapter; a Lightning iPhone or iPad needs Apple’s Lightning Digital AV Adapter as well.
Choose the connection path for your device
The connector alone does not determine compatibility. A USB-C port that only charges or transfers data cannot send a picture to the glasses. RayNeo’s GT Series guidance puts it plainly: “A USB-C connector does not always support video output.”
| Source output | What you need | Power path |
|---|---|---|
| USB-C with DisplayPort video output, DP Alt Mode, or compatible Thunderbolt video | The USB-C cable included with GT Max | The connected source powers the glasses |
| HDMI | RayNeo HDMI to Glasses and Charging Adapter, plus the included USB-C cable | The adapter connects the source to the glasses; the glasses rely on the connected source for power |
| Lightning | Apple Lightning Digital AV Adapter, RayNeo HDMI to Glasses and Charging Adapter, and the included USB-C cable | The glasses rely on the connected source for power |
RayNeo names iPhone 15 Pro and Steam Deck as examples of USB-C devices, and PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and computers with HDMI output as HDMI examples. These examples are not a substitute for checking the exact model and port. The HDMI adapter is sold separately, according to RayNeo’s GT Series support instructions; compatible USB-C video sources do not need it.
Connect a USB-C phone, laptop, or handheld
- Check the exact model and port. Look in the device specifications for “DisplayPort over USB-C,” “DP Alt Mode,” or compatible Thunderbolt video output. If the specifications are unclear, ask the device manufacturer whether that particular port supports video output.
- Connect the included USB-C cable. Plug one end into the source and the other into GT Max.
- Turn on the source. RayNeo says the glasses turn on when they detect compatible power and video.
- Set the display mode if needed. On a computer, choose mirroring or an extended display in the computer’s display settings. The exact menu and available options depend on the device. RayNeo describes the glasses as an external display in its GT support guidance.
Connect an HDMI computer or game console
- Connect RayNeo’s HDMI to Glasses and Charging Adapter to the source’s HDMI output.
- Connect the adapter to GT Max with the USB-C cable included with the glasses.
- Turn on the source. RayNeo says the glasses should power on and show the source’s video.
This is the documented route for HDMI sources such as a PS5, Xbox Series X|S, or an HDMI-equipped computer. It is not the route for a device that already provides compatible video over USB-C.

Connect a Lightning iPhone or iPad
Use both adapters in sequence: connect the Lightning device to an Apple Lightning Digital AV Adapter, connect that adapter’s HDMI output to RayNeo’s HDMI to Glasses and Charging Adapter, then connect the glasses to the RayNeo adapter with the included USB-C cable. RayNeo lists iPhone 14 Pro and ninth-generation iPad as examples of this connection path in its GT Series support instructions.
Power, wireless connections, and the XR App
Power comes from the source
GT and GT Max have no built-in battery: the connected source supplies power, video, and audio. Expect the source’s battery to drain during use. The glasses’ USB-C port is not a charging port. RayNeo describes this behavior in its GT Series support information.

Basic display use does not require the XR App
You do not need the RayNeo XR App for basic screen mirroring or an extended display. RayNeo lists optional features such as SBS 3D playback, AI 2D-to-3D conversion, spatial photo and video viewing, media import, firmware updates, and device settings. Availability varies with the connected device, operating system, app version, and glasses firmware. The app cannot make a charging-only or data-only USB-C port send video.

Wireless connection
The connection instructions here describe wired display paths: compatible USB-C video, HDMI through RayNeo’s adapter, or Lightning through both adapters. Do not assume a wireless display path based on a general RayNeo Air FAQ; the GT Max connection guidance cited above specifies these wired methods.

If the glasses show no picture
- For USB-C, verify video output on the exact port. The presence of a USB-C connector does not establish that it supports video. Check for DP Alt Mode, DisplayPort over USB-C, or compatible Thunderbolt video output.
- Try another video-capable port if available. Some computers have ports with different capabilities; check the computer’s specifications before switching.
- Review the source’s display settings. For a computer, confirm whether it is set to mirror or extend the display.
- For HDMI or Lightning, check the adapter chain. HDMI requires RayNeo’s HDMI adapter; Lightning also requires Apple’s Lightning Digital AV Adapter ahead of it.
RayNeo notes that compatibility can vary because of regional differences, manufacturer software updates, and other factors. Verify the exact device and port rather than relying on a compatibility list for another RayNeo glasses family. See RayNeo’s compatibility guidance.
