You can connect Buffer to Cursor through Buffer’s remote MCP server, then use Cursor to check channels and drafts, create post drafts, and schedule content. Buffer’s Cursor-specific guide uses OAuth and says no API key is needed.
What the Cursor and Buffer integration does
The connection lets Cursor interact with your Buffer account through the Model Context Protocol (MCP). Buffer’s guide demonstrates prompts such as listing connected channels, reviewing draft posts, and drafting an announcement to schedule for a chosen time. Buffer also describes tools for browsing queues, editing or scheduling posts, saving ideas, and retrieving post analytics.
For the Cursor-specific setup and examples, see Buffer’s Cursor integration guide. Cursor also supports remote MCP servers configured through its interface or an mcp.json file; consult Cursor’s MCP documentation if you need the broader configuration options.
Connect Buffer to Cursor
- Open Cursor’s MCP settings. In Cursor, go to Preferences → Cursor Settings → Tools & MCPs.
- Add Buffer’s remote MCP server. Add a server named
bufferand enterhttps://mcp.buffer.com/mcpas its URL. - Connect and authorize. Select Connect. Sign in to Buffer if prompted, then approve the requested access.
- Test with a read-only request. Ask Cursor to list your connected Buffer channels or show your draft posts. Once the connection works, you can try a request to draft or schedule a post.
These are the steps in Buffer’s dedicated Cursor guide. Cursor’s interface labels and routes may change, so use that guide if your settings screen differs.

- 5-in-1 USB-C Hub: Experience comprehensive connectivity featuring a Power Delivery input, two USB-A 2.0 ports, a USB-A 3.0 port, and an HDMI port. (Note: The USB-C power delivery input port is only for connecting an external wall charger to power your laptop and cannot power peripheral devices.)
- 90W Pass-Through Charging: Achieve optimal charging with 90W pass-through power to your laptop, supported by a total input of 100W, with the hub reserving 10W for operational efficiency. (Note: Wall charger not included.)
- Quick Data Transfers: Accelerate your productivity with rapid data transfers using a high-speed 5Gbps USB 3.0 port and two 480Mbps USB 2.0 ports.
- 4K HDMI Display: Enhance your visual experience with a hub capable of delivering 4K resolution at 30Hz in both mirror and extend modes. Please note that this hub is compatible with MacBook (macOS 12 and newer), Windows 10 and 11, ChromeOS, and laptops equipped with DP Alt Mode and Power Delivery. Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
OAuth in Cursor versus an API key in other MCP clients
Use the authentication instructions for the client you are configuring. Buffer’s Cursor-specific guide says, “Connect Buffer to Cursor using OAuth. No API key needed.” Its general MCP instructions describe a different setup for clients without a dedicated guide: connect to the same server URL using an API key in a Bearer authorization header. The API-key instructions are not a replacement for Cursor’s documented OAuth flow.
Useful prompts to try
- Check your setup: “List all my connected Buffer channels.”
- Review pending work: “Show me all my draft posts in Buffer so I can review what’s pending.”
- Prepare content: “Draft a Buffer post announcing the new feature I just committed.” Review the wording and select the correct channel before asking to schedule it.
- Schedule deliberately: Specify the channel and intended date and time, including the relevant timezone when needed. Then verify the saved post in Buffer.
These examples follow Buffer’s documented Cursor tasks. Cursor can help prepare and act on content, but you should review the actual post record in Buffer rather than assuming a request was saved exactly as intended.

Review changes before and after scheduling
Some Buffer MCP tools create, edit, or delete posts, or create ideas; these are write actions that can change account data. Buffer says most MCP clients ask for approval before such actions. Read the requested action carefully before approving it.
Before relying on a scheduled post, check the selected channel, date and time, timezone, and attached media. Buffer’s MCP documentation says account timezone information is used to interpret relative time requests and timestamps use ISO 8601 with an explicit UTC offset. Confirm the resulting post and its status in Buffer after the action.

When another Buffer connection method fits better
| Approach | Best fit | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Cursor’s Buffer MCP integration | Drafting, reviewing, or scheduling while working in Cursor | Buffer’s dedicated endpoint and OAuth setup. |
| Another MCP client | Using Buffer from an AI client other than Cursor | Follow Buffer’s generic MCP instructions, which use an API key and Bearer header. |
| Zapier | Connecting Buffer to an external app or trigger without writing a custom integration | Buffer documents a no-code Zapier integration; see Buffer’s Zapier integration page. |
| Buffer API | Application-specific automation or scripts | Use Buffer’s API documentation and its API overview for current details. |
Buffer says its current API is available on Free and paid plans, but plan terms and product details can change. Check Buffer’s current documentation or your account if API access differs from what you expect.
