To send Dify’s model requests through Bluehost AI Credits, install Dify’s Anthropic model provider, add a Bluehost AI Credits API key, and set the API URL to Bluehost’s gateway, https://gateway.ai.bluehost.com/. Dify checks the key against that URL before it makes the models available. A model reply in a Dify test app confirms the connection works.
The steps below follow Bluehost’s Dify setup guide, which was last updated September 16, 2026. Menu names and layouts can differ in other Dify versions, so match the labels on your own screen to the ones described here.
What you need before you start
- Owner or admin access to the Dify workspace. Bluehost’s guide says this role is required to manage workspace model providers. A connected provider applies to the whole workspace, so every member of that workspace will use the same connection.
- A Bluehost AI Credits API key. Create it in the Bluehost Portal’s AI Tooling area. Bluehost says AI Credits are available on Self-Managed VPS and VDS plans. Treat the key as a secret: keep it out of screenshots, tickets and shared configuration files.
- The gateway URL: https://gateway.ai.bluehost.com/ (enter it with the trailing slash, as published).
- A running Dify instance. The AI Credits steps add a provider inside Dify; they do not install Dify. Bluehost publishes separate installation guides for Dify on its Self-Managed VPS and Virtual Dedicated Server products.
Step 1: Add the Anthropic provider in Dify
- In Dify, open Integrations > Model Provider.
- Look for Anthropic among the installed or available providers. If it is not installed, install it before continuing.
- On the Anthropic provider card, select Add API Key.
Step 2: Enter the Bluehost values and save
Bluehost’s guide uses Dify’s Anthropic provider with a custom API URL. It does not describe a separate Bluehost provider type, so select Anthropic even though the requests go through Bluehost.

- In API URL, enter
https://gateway.ai.bluehost.com/. - Select Save. Dify validates the key against the URL and makes the models available only if validation succeeds.
Step 3: Choose a default model (optional)
Select Default Models and, if you want, set one of the available Anthropic models as the system default. Bluehost’s guide lists this as optional, so you can skip it and choose a model inside each app instead.

Step 4: Confirm the connection in a Dify app
- Go to Studio and create a Chatbot or a Text Generator app.
- Open Preview / Debug, enter a prompt, and send it.
A response from the model means the request went through the Bluehost connection. If the model selector offers no Anthropic models, or the message fails, go to the checks below.
If the test does not return a response
- Workspace role. Confirm your account is owner or admin. Other roles cannot manage workspace model providers.
- Key type. Confirm the value in API Key is a Bluehost AI Credits key. A key from another provider will not authenticate against the Bluehost gateway.
- URL spelling. The API URL must be exactly
https://gateway.ai.bluehost.com/. Re-save after correcting it, since validation runs on save. - Balance. AI Credits usage is billed against the account balance. Check the balance in the Bluehost Portal before assuming the connection itself is broken.
How AI Credits are priced and kept current
Bluehost lists Dify among the apps supported by its AI Gateway, which connects eligible apps to supported models through a customer-created API key. AI Credits are prepaid, with token costs that differ by model. The balance is a shared account wallet, so every app and user on the account draws from the same pool.
Bluehost’s AI Credits overview states that a balance is valid for 12 months from the most recent purchase, and each new purchase resets that window (Bluehost AI Credits overview, 2026). Rates and the list of supported models change, so check the Bluehost Portal for current prices and balance details before budgeting for usage. Usage is billed against the Bluehost AI Credits balance; this setup is not a direct Anthropic subscription.
