To connect a barcode scanner to Odoo Warehouse, choose a USB scanner for a fixed workstation, pair a Bluetooth scanner with a phone or tablet for mobile use, or use a mobile computer with an integrated scanner for frequent warehouse scanning. Then enable Barcode in Odoo, set the appropriate barcode nomenclature, confirm that each scan is sent in the right format and completed with Enter if needed, and test the actual warehouse workflow.
Choose the scanner setup that fits the work
Odoo supports several practical scanner arrangements. The best fit depends on whether the operator stays at a workstation or moves through the warehouse. Odoo’s hardware guidance covers USB scanners, Bluetooth scanners, and mobile computers with built-in scanners.

Enable Barcode and choose a nomenclature
In Odoo 17, open Inventory → Configuration → Settings, enable Barcode Scanner, and save. Then select the nomenclature appropriate for the labels and operations in use. Odoo’s Barcode setup documentation describes default UPC/EAN handling and an option to use default GS1 nomenclature.

A scanner only sends barcode data to Odoo; it does not create or maintain the barcode records. Assign and check barcode values for the relevant products and variants, product packaging, and locations. The labels being scanned must correspond to the records and nomenclature configured in Odoo.

Connect and configure the scanner
USB scanner at a workstation
- Connect the scanner to the computer’s USB port.
- Set the scanner to USB keyboard or HID output, following the scanner’s manual. In this mode, a scan is entered as keyboard input.
- Set the scanner’s keyboard layout to match the computer’s operating-system layout. A mismatch can cause scanned characters to be interpreted incorrectly.
- Check whether the scanner sends an Enter or carriage return after each barcode. If it does not, configure a suffix if the scanner supports it; use the scanner manual for the exact programming procedure.
- Open Odoo and test a barcode in the intended Barcode operation.
Bluetooth scanner with a phone or tablet
- Pair the scanner with the phone or tablet using that device’s Bluetooth settings and the scanner’s pairing instructions.
- Open Odoo on the mobile device and enter the relevant warehouse operation.
- Scan a barcode and confirm that the data appears correctly and that the operation advances as expected. If it does not, check the scanner’s compatibility and output behavior for that mobile device.
Mobile computer with an integrated scanner
Odoo says recent Android models using Chrome and Windows models using Edge should work, but it does not guarantee compatibility for every model or configuration. The browser, operating system, scanner settings, and Odoo release can all matter. Test the exact device and workflow in the warehouse environment before buying or deploying devices at scale.
Zebra Android devices using DataWedge
For Zebra Android devices, Odoo’s hardware guide describes enabling keyboard output in DataWedge and checking its key-event settings. Follow the guide for the deployed Odoo release and the device’s DataWedge version; menu labels and behavior can vary. Confirm that scans reach Odoo as expected and that the device sends an appropriate scan-ending key where the workflow needs one.

Test a real receiving or delivery operation
Do not stop after confirming that a scanner can enter text. Test it in the warehouse flow operators will use. Odoo documents processing receipts and deliveries in its Barcode app using a scanner or the Odoo mobile app; the flow includes scanning items in the context of an operation, reviewing the lines, and validating the transfer. - Check that the correct product or variant is recognized and that quantities are recorded as intended.
- Test packaging or location barcodes if the operation uses them.
- Confirm that scan completion behaves correctly and that operators can review and validate the transfer.
Keep RFID and IoT requirements separate
RFID is a distinct workflow. Odoo 19’s RFID guide describes using a Zebra RFD40 with a mobile computer or smartphone for RFID inventory operations. Ordinary barcode scanning does not require RFID hardware.

Odoo 19 also documents IoT Box and Windows virtual IoT as supported IoT systems. Its IoT Box documentation states that an IoT Box subscription is required for production use and is created automatically when an IoT system connects to a database. The documentation does not make an IoT system a general requirement for ordinary USB or Bluetooth barcode scanners.
