Connect the antenna’s coaxial cable to the TV’s VHF/UHF, ANT IN, or ANT/CABLE jack. Then set the TV’s signal type to Antenna and run a channel scan. The scan finds local broadcast channels the TV can receive; it does not use an HDMI input or a cable box.

Connect the antenna to the coaxial input

  1. Find the TV’s threaded coaxial jack. It may be labeled VHF/UHF, ANT IN, or ANT/CABLE.
  2. Connect the antenna’s coaxial lead to that jack and tighten it securely by hand.

This direct connection sends the antenna signal to the TV’s tuner. It is separate from an HDMI connection, which is used for devices such as a cable box or streaming player. Sony’s antenna guidance describes connecting the antenna to the VHF/UHF input.

Set the signal type and scan for channels

Menu names vary by TV model and software. Look for a channel or tuning section in Settings, Home, or Menu, and choose the antenna signal type before scanning.

  1. Open the TV’s channel settings. Look for Channels, Channel Setup, or Signal Type.
  2. Set the signal type to Antenna, not Cable. Some TVs use a similar label such as Air or Broadcast.
  3. Choose the scan option. It may be called Auto Program, Program Channels, Channel Scan, or Digital Auto Tuning. Let it finish; Sony notes that a scan may take a few minutes.
  4. Return to Live TV or the channel list and tune to a station found by the scan.

Sony’s instructions show that both the exact menu path and scan label can differ by model. See its channel programming guide and Android TV Auto Program instructions; if the labels on your TV do not match, check the manual for its exact model.

Actual Reception depends on location, terrain, and weather, always re-scan for channels after moving the antenna. If you have any issues, please contact us. What if the TV has no scan option?

The TV needs a built-in digital tuner to scan for and store over-the-air broadcast channels by itself. If it is a display without a tuner, its menu will not offer the TV’s own channel scan; consult the manual to determine whether you need an external tuner.

Fix missing or unstable antenna channels

  • No channels found: Check that the coaxial lead is seated, confirm the signal type is set to Antenna rather than Cable, and run the scan again.
  • Some local channels are missing: Move or turn the antenna, then scan again. Available channels depend on your region and the antenna’s type and placement; Sony recommends checking local availability and antenna suggestions through AntennaWeb.
  • The picture drops in and out: The signal may be too weak for the TV to maintain a stable picture. If you are using an indoor antenna, Sony suggests considering an outdoor antenna.
  • A station changed, or a new one appeared: Run another scan. Channels that were not included in the previous scan may not appear in the TV’s stored channel list. Sony explains this in its guidance for finding new channels.
  • Your menus look different: Follow the owner’s manual for the exact model. Menu paths can depend on the TV model and software.

A scan cannot guarantee a particular channel count or reception quality. Both depend on local station availability and antenna placement.
