You can connect a wireless keyboard to a Samsung TV through its USB receiver or Bluetooth, but whether either method works depends on the TV’s exact model and region. For the quickest start, plug in the receiver and try typing; for Bluetooth, put the keyboard in pairing mode and select it from the TV’s input-device settings. Check your TV’s manual or specifications first: Bluetooth audio support alone does not guarantee support for Bluetooth keyboards.

Choose the connection method your TV supports

Wireless keyboards generally connect to a TV in one of two ways. A keyboard with a USB receiver uses the receiver as a separate input device; a Bluetooth keyboard pairs wirelessly through the TV’s Bluetooth settings. Support for one route does not establish support for the other.

Connection What to do What to confirm
USB receiver Plug the receiver into an available USB port on the TV or, where applicable, its One Connect box. The TV supports USB keyboard input. The keyboard and receiver are powered and connected securely.
Bluetooth Put the keyboard in pairing mode, then select it from the TV’s Bluetooth or input-device list. The TV supports Bluetooth HID keyboard input, not merely Bluetooth audio. The relevant settings are available on your model.

Samsung Australia says most of its TVs manufactured before 2018 automatically recognize USB keyboards and mice, while also noting that keyboard support is not available on every model. This is regional, general guidance—not a guarantee for a particular TV. Check the Samsung Australia support guidance and the manual for your exact model.

Check compatibility before you buy

  1. Find the TV’s full model number and confirm the market or region for which it was sold.
  2. Open the matching Samsung support page or user manual and look specifically for keyboard or input-device support over USB or Bluetooth.
  3. If you plan to use Bluetooth, check for Bluetooth HID support. Samsung UK warns that some TVs support Bluetooth audio devices but not Bluetooth HID devices such as keyboards, mice, and gamepads. “The TV has Bluetooth” is not enough to confirm keyboard compatibility. See Samsung UK’s Bluetooth guidance.
  4. If one connection method is unsupported, consider the other only if the TV’s documentation confirms support for it.

Compatibility with keyboards from other brands can vary, according to Samsung Türkiye’s regional guidance. That does not amount to a universal compatibility list or a guarantee for a particular third-party keyboard.

Connect a keyboard with a USB receiver

  1. Turn on the keyboard and check its batteries or charge level.
  2. Insert the keyboard’s USB receiver into an available USB port on the TV, or into the One Connect box if your setup uses one.
  3. Wait a few seconds, then try typing or navigating with the keyboard.
  4. If it does not respond, check the keyboard’s power and reseat the receiver. Confirm that your TV model supports USB keyboard input.

In many cases, no pairing menu is needed for a receiver-based keyboard. However, automatic detection is not guaranteed across all Samsung TVs; Samsung’s pre-2018 statement applies to most TVs in its Australia guidance, not every set.

Pair a Bluetooth keyboard

  1. Put the keyboard into Bluetooth pairing mode using the keyboard maker’s instructions. Keep it near the TV while pairing.
  2. Open the TV’s Bluetooth or input-device settings. Use the model-year examples below as a starting point, not as a universal route.
  3. Select the keyboard when it appears. Choose Pair and connect if prompted.
  4. If it is not listed, check that it is powered on and still in pairing mode; move it closer and refresh or rescan if the TV offers that option.

These example paths come from Samsung Australia’s support guidance. Menu wording can vary by model and market; consult your local manual if the route does not match your screen.

Troubleshoot common connection problems

The keyboard does not appear in the Bluetooth list

  • Confirm that the keyboard is powered on and actively in pairing mode; follow its own instructions if you are unsure how to activate pairing.
  • Move it closer to the TV and refresh or rescan the device list if that option is available.
  • Check the TV manual for the correct menu route. Labels and routes differ across model years and regions.

The TV pairs with the keyboard, but typing does not work

Check that the TV supports Bluetooth HID keyboard input. A TV that supports Bluetooth audio may still lack support for Bluetooth keyboards. Verify the exact model’s specifications or manual rather than relying on Bluetooth availability alone.

  • Try another available TV USB port if one is available.
  • Confirm in the TV’s model-specific documentation that USB keyboard input is supported.

The keyboard works in some apps but not others

App support can be limited. Samsung India says that, under the guidance on its page, keyboard and mouse use is limited to the browser and apps that support a pointer; it also says connected mice work only in the Internet app. These details should not be assumed to apply identically to every model, region, or app. Check the manual for your TV and the behavior of the app you want to use.

The settings route is missing

Use the manual or local Samsung support page for your full TV model number. A route listed for a different generation or market may not appear on your set.

What to expect after connecting

A successful connection does not guarantee that the keyboard will work everywhere in the TV interface. Input support may depend on the model, region, and app. If you need a keyboard for a particular browser or app, confirm that it accepts keyboard input rather than assuming that pairing alone enables it.
