To connect a Samsung refrigerator to household water, follow the instructions for your exact model and installation kit: shut off the supply, connect compatible tubing and fittings, restore water and check for leaks, then install the filter and flush the system as directed. Many Samsung US instructions describe 1/4-inch tubing, but fittings and connection layouts vary by model and kit.
Before you connect the water line
Find the refrigerator’s model number and consult its user or installation manual. Samsung says installation procedures can vary with the equipment and directs owners to the instructions supplied for their installation kit. Its US water-line instructions provide general guidance, not a substitute for the model-specific directions.
- Identify an accessible cold-water supply that is suitable for drinking and a shutoff valve you can reach.
- Check whether your household plumbing already has a compatible shutoff valve. Adding one may require plumbing work; follow the model instructions and local requirements.
- Choose a water-line kit compatible with the refrigerator and the household connection. Check the included fittings at both ends: some kits contain only one compression nut.
- Keep the connection accessible for inspection, and allow enough tubing to position the refrigerator without bending or pinching the line.
Choose compatible tubing and fittings
Samsung’s general US instructions describe 1/4-inch copper tubing and 1/4-inch plastic tubing with a formed, molded end (sometimes called a bulb). The required nuts and ferrules depend on the tubing and connection. Confirm the details in your kit instructions and refrigerator manual rather than assuming a single arrangement fits every model.

Neither option is universally preferred by the cited guidance. Choose tubing and fittings that match both the refrigerator connection and the existing household supply.

Connect the line
- Shut off the water. Close the supply before assembling or disconnecting any water-line fittings.
- Prepare the household connection. Use an existing compatible shutoff valve, or have an appropriate one installed on the cold-water line according to the model instructions and local plumbing requirements. Samsung’s US instructions describe a pipe clamp and shutoff valve as one arrangement; it should not be treated as suitable for every plumbing system.
- Connect the kit to the shutoff valve. Follow the kit’s directions and check that the fittings match the valve and tubing.
- Connect the tubing at the refrigerator. For copper tubing, install the compression nut and ferrule as specified. For plastic tubing, insert the formed end into the compression fitting as directed.
- Tighten carefully. Tighten the compression nut until seated, but do not overtighten. Samsung warns that overtightening can cause a leak.
- Restore water and inspect. Open the shutoff valve and check every connection for drips or moisture. If you see a leak, close the supply, inspect the fitting and correct it before proceeding.
- Position the refrigerator without kinking the line. Keep the joined section straight as you push the refrigerator into place. Samsung’s DRF36C700 installation guide specifically cautions that its joined water-line section should remain straight when relocating that model; this is also a useful general precaution.
- Check for leaks again. Once the refrigerator is positioned, inspect the connections and tubing once more.
Install the filter and prepare the water and ice
If your model uses a water filter and it is not already installed, install it as directed in the manual before using the dispenser. Flush water through the dispenser according to the instructions for your refrigerator. Samsung’s US support guidance says to dispense one gallon before drinking or using the water, while a Samsung Africa support article gives a different, regional pressure recommendation. Because published startup directions can differ by market and model, use the quantity in your own manual rather than combining or substituting amounts.
Follow your model’s instructions for starting the ice maker. Samsung’s US guidance says to allow one to two days for ice production and discard the first two buckets. Treat this as general US guidance, and check your manual for your model’s startup procedure.

If the flow is low or the installation is uncertain
Low flow can have more than one cause, and no model number was provided to establish a pressure requirement for this refrigerator. Samsung Africa’s regional guidance says to install a booster pump when pressure is below 20 psi; that threshold is not established here as a universal requirement across models or markets. Check the model manual or ask a qualified installer to assess the supply if flow is weak.
Regional installation and service guidance also varies. For example, Samsung Caribbean guidance advises using new hoses supplied with the appliance and recommends installation by a qualified technician. Follow the instructions and plumbing requirements applicable to your location; do not assume regional statements define warranty terms everywhere.
