To connect a Samsung Galaxy device to 5G, confirm that your exact model supports 5G, your carrier plan and SIM are eligible, and 5G service is available where you are. Then open Settings > Connections > Mobile Networks (or Mobile Network) > Network mode and choose an option that includes 5G. If the requirements are met, the device may connect automatically; the menu and available options vary by model, software, carrier, and region.
Before you change settings, check that 5G is available to your device
A 5G option in Settings cannot add 5G support to an incompatible device or enable service your carrier does not provide. Check these requirements first:
- Exact device model: Confirm that your specific Samsung phone or tablet supports 5G. The Samsung name alone does not establish compatibility.
- Carrier plan: Ask your carrier whether your plan includes 5G service.
- SIM: Confirm that the SIM is compatible with your carrier’s 5G service. An older SIM may not work with a 5G plan.
- Coverage: Check whether your carrier offers 5G where you are using the device. Availability can vary by location and local network conditions.
Samsung’s support guidance lists device compatibility, plan, SIM, and service coverage as factors in using 5G. Check your model with Samsung and verify your plan, SIM, and location with your carrier: Samsung US support and Samsung UK support.

Turn on a network mode that includes 5G
- Open Settings.
- Tap Connections.
- Tap Mobile Networks or Mobile Network.
- Tap Network mode.
- Select the available option that includes 5G. Some devices may show a choice such as GLOBAL; select it only if it is an available option appropriate to your device and carrier.
The wording and choices are not identical across every Galaxy device. Samsung notes that “Device screenshots and menus may vary depending on the device model and software version.” If you do not see these exact labels, check your device’s available mobile-network settings or ask your carrier for model-specific guidance. Check whether the phone is connected to 5G
Look for a 5G indicator in the status bar. Its appearance can vary by carrier, and the indicator may not show simply because you selected a 5G-capable network mode. When 5G service is unavailable, the device may use 4G/LTE or 3G instead. That fallback does not, by itself, mean the phone is misconfigured. Samsung explains the indicator and fallback behavior in its 5G support guidance.
If your Samsung device is not connecting to 5G
Work through the checks in order. A missing 5G indicator alone does not identify the cause.

- Verify the exact model supports 5G. If it does not, the device cannot connect to 5G.
- Confirm your plan and SIM with the carrier. Ask whether 5G is included and whether your SIM is compatible.
- Check coverage at your current location. The device may use another network type where 5G is unavailable.
- Review Network mode. Return to Settings > Connections > Mobile Networks/Mobile Network > Network mode and select an available option that includes 5G.
- Restart the device. Samsung recommends restarting when the prerequisites and setting appear correct but the connection still does not work.
- Contact your carrier if the problem continues. It can check your plan, SIM, local service, and device compatibility. Samsung’s US and UK support pages also recommend contacting the carrier when troubleshooting does not resolve the issue.
