You can select an Xfinity Wi-Fi network from your PS5’s network settings, but getting online may require a separate hotspot sign-in. Xfinity’s public-hotspot directions use a browser-based authorization page, and the official instructions reviewed do not establish that a PS5 can open and complete that page. Try the steps below, but treat portal access as the key uncertainty rather than assuming the console will connect automatically.
How do I connect my PS5 to an Xfinity hotspot?

Check whether a public Xfinity hotspot is available nearby using Xfinity’s hotspot information. The network name you may see is xfinitywifi. Seeing that name does not, by itself, confirm that public sign-in is available at that access point.

On your PS5, open Settings > Network > Settings > Set Up Internet Connection. Select xfinitywifi if it appears, then follow the prompts shown on screen. PlayStation’s instructions say that a lock icon indicates a password-protected network; you will need the Wi-Fi password to join it.

If the console presents an authorization or sign-in prompt, follow it. Xfinity’s public instructions describe selecting xfinitywifi and launching a browser to complete the access flow. Xfinity customers use their credentials; the published instructions also describe access for non-customers where available. Those directions do not explain how to open or complete the portal on a PS5.

PlayStation documents Wi-Fi setup, while Xfinity describes browser-based hotspot sign-in. The cited official instructions do not confirm direct PS5 captive-portal support, and they do not document a phone-to-console authorization method. Signing in on a phone should not be assumed to authorize the PS5.
Can I use xfinitywifi on PS5?
Possibly, if the access point offers public access and the required sign-in can be completed. Selecting the network is only the connection step; the hotspot may still require authorization. Whether the current Xfinity portal works directly on a PS5 is not established by the official instructions cited here.

Public and in-home Xfinity hotspots are different
Xfinity distinguishes public hotspots from an Xfinity customer’s private in-home hotspot. Its public “Accept and Connect” flow is not available for the private in-home hotspot. If you see a password prompt or no public-access option, look for a public business or outdoor hotspot, or ask the network owner for access rather than treating the private network as an open public hotspot.

The hotspot requires a browser sign-in
A network can appear in the PS5 list and still require a separate login. Xfinity’s public directions call for a browser-based step, but PlayStation’s cited setup page does not describe Xfinity portal handling on PS5. If no usable sign-in prompt appears, the documented instructions do not provide a console-specific workaround.

You may be trying to join a private hotspot
An in-home Xfinity hotspot does not offer the public “Accept and Connect” flow. A password-protected network requires its password; otherwise, use a hotspot that provides public access or a network whose owner can grant access.
Check the network details and compatibility
PlayStation recommends checking that the SSID, password, and security method are correct when troubleshooting a connection. PS5 supports IPv6, but Sony states that it does not support IPv6-only network connections. Since you generally cannot change the configuration of an Xfinity hotspot, this is compatibility context—not a setting you can fix on the console.

The steps begin with the PS5’s built-in Wi-Fi settings. The cited Xfinity and PlayStation instructions do not establish that an adapter, router, cable, or other purchase resolves the hotspot’s browser-based authorization requirement.
