To connect a Philips Smart TV, first decide whether you want to get the TV online, cast from a phone or computer, or connect a device by cable. The steps and supported features vary by TV model and platform, so find the model number and use the instructions for that exact set.
Choose the connection you need
- Get the TV online: Connect it to your home Wi-Fi network.
- Show content wirelessly: Use Google Cast on supported Philips Google TVs, or Miracast on compatible models and source devices.
- Connect a laptop, PC, or set-top box: Use HDMI when the TV and source device have compatible ports.
For model-specific menu names and compatibility, search Philips Support using the TV’s model number. Do not assume that a menu path or wireless feature shown for one Philips TV applies to another.
How to connect a Philips TV to Wi-Fi
On older Philips models covered by Philips’ WLAN instructions, the path is Home > Setup > Connect to network > Wireless > Scan. Choose your network, enter its encryption key, and finish setup. Philips notes that this connection can take several minutes. See Philips’ WLAN setup instructions.

Other models may use different menus. Follow the wireless-network instructions for your exact model on Philips Support. A separate Philips article specifies the PTA01/00 Wireless USB adapter for certain covered models; that is not a general requirement for Philips TVs. Check the exact model’s support page before buying legacy hardware. Review the adapter-dependent instructions.

How to cast to a Philips Google TV
- Connect the phone, tablet, or computer and the Philips Google TV to the same Wi-Fi network.
- Open a Chromecast-enabled app, or use Chrome on a computer.
- Select the app’s Cast option or Chrome’s Cast control, then choose the TV.
- To stop casting, disconnect from the casting device.
Philips’ Google TV casting instructions require the same Wi-Fi network. Casting from an app is not the same as mirroring the entire screen; available behavior depends on the app and device.
How to use Miracast on a Philips TV
Some Philips models support Wireless Screencasting using Miracast. The source device must also be Miracast-certified. Open the TV’s Wireless Screencasting option, then select the TV from the source device’s wireless-display controls. The exact labels vary by model. Philips’ wireless-casting instructions say Apple does not support Miracast or Philips Wireless Screencasting, so this method is not a solution for an iPhone or Mac.

How to connect a laptop, PC, or set-top box with HDMI
Laptop or PC
For the older Philips models covered by its instructions, connect the computer to the TV using HDMI-to-HDMI. Philips also documents a DVI-I-to-HDMI connection for applicable equipment; in that setup, audio needs a separate connection because the DVI-to-HDMI route does not carry it as described. Select the TV source/input matching the connected port. Some computers require you to toggle or enable their external display output. Check the computer and TV ports before buying a cable or adapter. Read Philips’ PC and laptop connection steps.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteCable or satellite box
Connect the set-top box to the TV with HDMI, then use the TV’s Source or Input control to choose the HDMI input in use. Philips’ set-top-box instructions describe this wired route. A Philips Android TV manual also explains selecting connected equipment through Inputs; consult the manual for your TV’s controls and labels. Philips Televisions user manual.

What to check if the connection does not work
- The TV is not online: Confirm that you selected the correct Wi-Fi network and entered its encryption key. Allow several minutes for the older WLAN setup described above to finish, and verify that its menu path applies to your model.
- The TV does not appear for Google Cast: Check that the TV and casting device are on the same Wi-Fi network and that you are using a Chromecast-enabled app or Chrome.
- A Miracast device cannot find the TV: Confirm that both devices support Miracast and that Wireless Screencasting is open on the TV. For compatible Windows devices, Philips advises checking that wireless display is enabled on the source device. See Philips’ Miracast troubleshooting guidance.
- The picture is missing after connecting HDMI: Select the input corresponding to the TV port you used, and check that the computer’s external-display output is enabled.
- A wireless setup calls for an adapter: Verify that the requirement applies to your exact TV model before seeking the PTA01/00 adapter.
