For a phone or laptop, Bluetooth is usually the simplest option: put the PartyBox in pairing mode, then select its name in the device’s Bluetooth settings. For a TV, first check the TV’s audio outputs and your exact PartyBox model’s inputs; the right connection varies by equipment.

Connect a phone or laptop with Bluetooth

Bluetooth avoids a cable, provided both devices support a compatible Bluetooth audio connection. The button labels and displayed speaker name can vary by PartyBox model.

  1. Turn on the PartyBox. If needed, select Bluetooth as the source.
  2. Press the speaker’s Bluetooth or pairing button to make it discoverable.
  3. Open Bluetooth settings on your phone or laptop and select the PartyBox from the available devices.
  4. Start playback on the phone or laptop once the devices connect.

For the PartyBox 310, select JBL PARTYBOX 310. For the PartyBox On-The-Go, select JBL PARTYBOX ON-THE-GO. Follow the instructions for your model if its name or pairing controls differ. JBL says the PartyBox 310 tries to reconnect to the last connected Bluetooth device when powered on; if it does not, select it manually. JBL PartyBox 310 Owner’s Manual and JBL PartyBox On-The-Go Owner’s Manual provide model-specific instructions.

Connect with an AUX cable

JBL documents analog AUX as a way to connect an external audio device. Connect the source’s audio output to the PartyBox AUX input with a compatible analog audio cable, then play audio from the source. JBL says the cable is not included. Check the ports on both devices before buying a cable: the documentation does not establish one connector type that fits every phone, laptop, or PartyBox. A phone without an analog audio output may require an adapter, but compatibility depends on the phone and adapter.

There is no single documented TV setup for every PartyBox. Start by checking which audio outputs the TV has and which audio inputs your exact PartyBox model accepts.

Troubleshoot a connection that does not play audio

  • The speaker does not appear in Bluetooth settings: Make sure it is on and in pairing mode, then select the entry matching your model. Keep the devices within Bluetooth range and consider the surrounding environment, which JBL says can affect Bluetooth performance.
  • The PartyBox 310 reconnects to another device: It may try to reconnect to the last paired device when powered on. Select it manually from the intended phone or laptop’s Bluetooth settings.
  • The PartyBox 310 stops playing AUX or Bluetooth audio: Its manual says only one source plays at a time, with priority in this order: USB, Bluetooth, then AUX. A higher-priority source interrupts a lower-priority one; stop the higher-priority source before resuming the other audio.
  • You have paired many devices to a PartyBox 310: JBL’s manual says it stores up to eight paired devices; pairing a ninth replaces the first. This limit is specific to the PartyBox 310 documentation.
  • A USB cable does not carry audio from your phone, computer, or TV: JBL’s documented USB audio use is playback from a USB storage device, not general USB audio input from another device. Check for Bluetooth or a compatible analog connection instead.
