First identify your DJI controller and what you want Wi-Fi to do. A controller with a built-in screen may join your home Wi-Fi or a hotspot for internet access. On certain older models, Wi-Fi instead connects your phone to the controller. Those are different connections, and the setup steps are not interchangeable.
Which Wi-Fi connection do you need?
| What you want to connect | Applicable setup | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Controller to the internet | DJI Smart Controller; DJI confirms it can connect to Wi-Fi networks and hotspots. | Open the controller’s network settings and join your network or hotspot. Follow the manual for your controller’s exact menu labels. |
| Phone to controller | DJI’s troubleshooting guide identifies Phantom 3 Standard, Phantom 3 SE, Phantom 3 4K, and Spark for this older Wi-Fi connection method. | On the phone, select the controller’s SSID from the Wi-Fi list and enter the password printed on the controller. DJI lists 12341234 as the default password for the applicable models. |
Do not assume that every DJI controller uses the same Wi-Fi procedure. DJI RC, RC 2, Smart Controller, RC-N series, and older Phantom or Spark controllers differ in how they connect. The available guidance does not establish one universal Wi-Fi menu sequence for all models.
Connect a Smart Controller to Wi-Fi or a hotspot
DJI confirms that the Smart Controller supports Wi-Fi networks and hotspots. Its internet connection can be used for system and app updates. The exact screen labels can vary by device and software version, so consult the DJI Smart Controller manual and downloads rather than following instructions intended for another controller.
- On the Smart Controller, open its network settings.
- Choose the Wi-Fi network or hotspot you want to use.
- Enter the network password if prompted, then check that the controller has joined the network.
Connect a phone to an older controller’s Wi-Fi
For the Phantom 3 Standard, Phantom 3 SE, Phantom 3 4K, and Spark, DJI describes a wireless phone-to-controller connection. In this setup, the phone joins the controller’s own Wi-Fi signal; it is not the controller joining your home internet network.

- DJI Neo, DJI Avata 2, DJI O3 Air Unit, DJI O4 Air Unit Pro, DJI O4 Air Unit
- Power on the controller and check its printed label for the Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password.
- In the phone’s Wi-Fi settings, disconnect from any other network and select the controller’s SSID.
- Enter the password printed on the controller. DJI says
12341234is the default for the applicable models. - Open the app and check whether the phone recognizes the controller.
DJI’s connection troubleshooting guidance covers these older Wi-Fi setups and distinguishes them from wired phone-to-controller connections.
If the phone will not stay connected
- Check whether another device is using the controller’s signal. DJI advises confirming that no other device has connected and occupied it.
- Turn off automatic network switching temporarily. On some phones, WLAN+ or Wi-Fi Assistant may abandon a Wi-Fi network that has no internet connection. Disable that feature while connecting to the controller.
- Restart and reconnect. Restart the controller, then select its SSID again from the phone’s Wi-Fi settings.
- Confirm you are troubleshooting the right link. “Phone not connected to controller,” “aircraft not connected to remote control,” and a controller not connected to internet describe different problems. A cable, controller port, phone case, app, firmware, or phone-compatibility issue belongs to wired-connection troubleshooting, not the Wi-Fi steps above.
Reset Wi-Fi only with the procedure for your model
DJI specifies different reset procedures for Spark and the listed Phantom 3 models. Do not apply one model’s button sequence to another.

- 5.5-inch FHD Screen - A 700-nit 5.5-inch FHD touchscreen display ensures pilots can see clearly, even in bright environments, and enjoy a more comprehensive control experience.
Spark
- Power on the controller.
- Hold its power button for nine seconds.
- Listen for three beeps, which indicate that the Wi-Fi reset succeeded.
Phantom 3 Standard, SE, and 4K
- Power on the controller.
- Move the gimbal dial fully upward.
- Toggle the S2 switch from up to down at least three times.
- Look for the status indicator to flash red and green for five to six seconds, signaling the reset.
These reset instructions are from DJI’s connection troubleshooting guidance, which also covers the applicable Phantom 3 models.

When to consult the manual or contact DJI
If your controller model is not among the older Wi-Fi-linked models above, use the manual for that exact controller instead of trying the SSID or reset steps here. DJI’s download pages provide the manuals for the DJI RC 2 and DJI RC. If model-specific troubleshooting does not resolve a persistent connection problem, DJI recommends submitting the controller for diagnosis or repair through its support process.
