Windows 11 removes the Firefox application without deleting your bookmarks, history, saved passwords, cookies, extensions, or profile settings. That is useful if you plan to reinstall Firefox, but it is not a complete removal.
To remove Firefox completely, uninstall the application first, then remove its remaining installation folder and Firefox profile data separately. Do not delete the profile unless you are certain you no longer need the stored browser data.
Before uninstalling Firefox
Close every Firefox window before starting. In Firefox, click the menu button, then choose Exit. If Firefox is still running, Windows may leave files behind or the uninstaller may fail to start.
Also decide whether you need to keep your Firefox data. Uninstalling the browser itself does not remove:

If you may reinstall Firefox later, leave the profile folder in place. If you want Firefox removed along with its local profiles, follow the profile-removal section after uninstalling the application.
Method 1: Uninstall Firefox from Windows 11 Settings
- Open Start and select Settings. You can also press
Win+I. - In Settings, select Apps.
- Click Installed apps.
- Find Mozilla Firefox. You can type Firefox in the search box to locate it faster.
- Click the three-dot button beside Mozilla Firefox and choose Uninstall.
- When the Mozilla Firefox Uninstall window opens, click Next.
- Click Uninstall.
- Click Finish when the wizard completes.
This removes the Firefox program. It does not remove the Windows Firefox profile containing personal data.
Alternative: Use Control Panel
The older Control Panel interface remains available in Windows 11 and can be useful if Firefox does not appear correctly in Settings.

If Firefox is missing from Installed apps
If Mozilla Firefox is not listed, or clicking Uninstall does not open the Mozilla wizard, run Firefox’s uninstaller directly.
Using the Run dialog
- Press
Win+R. - Try this command first:
C:Program FilesMozilla Firefoxuninstallhelper.exe - If that path does not exist, try:
C:Program Files (x86)Mozilla Firefoxuninstallhelper.exe - Press
Enter. - When the uninstall window appears, click Next, Uninstall, and Finish.
You can run either command from the File Explorer address bar, Command Prompt, or PowerShell as well. The correct location is the one that exists on your computer; do not assume that the 32-bit path is correct simply because Windows is 64-bit.

Check the installation folder
The uninstaller displays the installation directory it is removing. Common locations are:
| Typical installation | Folder |
|---|---|
| Standard Program Files installation | C:Program FilesMozilla Firefox |
| 32-bit installation on 64-bit Windows | C:Program Files (x86)Mozilla Firefox |
A per-user installation is an edge case. It may use this uninstaller instead:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
%LOCALAPPDATA%Mozilla Firefoxuninstallhelper.exe
This path is reported for per-user deployments rather than being Mozilla’s standard general-purpose uninstall path. Windows may request administrator approval while removing such an installation.
Remove leftover Firefox program files
After the uninstall wizard finishes, check the installation folder shown by the wizard. If that folder still exists and you are sure it belongs to the Firefox installation you just removed, delete it manually.
- Open File Explorer.
- Go to the installation directory, such as
C:Program FilesMozilla Firefox. - Right-click the Mozilla Firefox folder and select Delete.
- Approve the administrator prompt if Windows displays one.
If Windows says a file is in use, restart the computer and try again. Make sure Firefox is not still running in Task Manager before deleting the folder.

Remove Firefox profiles and personal data
Firefox profiles are stored separately from the browser’s program files. A computer can also contain more than one profile. Therefore, deleting the Mozilla Firefox folder under Program Files does not remove the profile data.
The straightforward Mozilla-documented method removes the Firefox profile folder under your Windows roaming application data:
- Press
Win+R. - Enter:
%APPDATA%Mozilla - Click OK.
- In the folder that opens, right-click the Firefox folder.
- Select Delete.
Deleting this folder removes the Firefox profiles stored there, including data such as bookmarks, settings, and saved passwords. This action is not reversible unless you have a backup or Firefox Sync copy.
Remove a specific Firefox profile with Profile Manager
If you have multiple profiles and want to remove only one, use Firefox Profile Manager instead of deleting the entire Firefox folder. This is useful when one profile must be preserved for a later reinstall or another Windows user.
- Reinstall or open Firefox Profile Manager while Firefox is closed.
- In the profile list, select the profile you want to remove.
- Choose the option to remove or delete that profile.
- Review the choices carefully:
| Choice | Result |
|---|---|
| Don’t Delete Files | Removes the profile from Profile Manager but keeps its files on the computer. |
| Delete Files | Removes the profile and its files, including bookmarks, settings, and passwords. This cannot be undone. |
| Cancel | Stops the operation without deleting the profile. |
For a complete removal, choose Delete Files only after confirming that you no longer need the profile.

What not to expect from the Firefox uninstaller
Some older guides tell you to select a checkbox named Remove my Firefox personal data and customizations. That instruction is outdated for current Firefox on Windows. The modern Mozilla uninstaller handles application removal separately from profile-data removal and does not present that personal-data checkbox.
Do not use a third-party uninstaller just to find this option. Mozilla warns that third-party uninstall tools can delete Firefox profile contents, including extensions, cache, cookies, bookmarks, settings, and saved passwords. Windows Settings, the Firefox uninstaller, and deliberate profile-folder cleanup are sufficient.
Verify that Firefox has been removed
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps and search for Mozilla Firefox.
- Confirm that the Firefox installation folder shown earlier no longer exists, unless you intentionally retained it.
- If you chose to delete personal data, press
Win+R, open%APPDATA%Mozilla, and confirm that the Firefox folder is gone. - Restart Windows if an installation-folder deletion was blocked while Firefox was running.
If Firefox still appears in the Installed apps list after its files are gone, use the direct uninstaller path or the Control Panel entry. A stale Windows entry does not necessarily mean that the browser program is still installed.

What if Mozilla Firefox is not listed in Installed apps?
Run C:Program FilesMozilla Firefoxuninstallhelper.exe or C:Program Files (x86)Mozilla Firefoxuninstallhelper.exe. A per-user installation may instead use %LOCALAPPDATA%Mozilla Firefoxuninstallhelper.exe.
Is there a Firefox uninstaller option to remove personal data?
Not in the current Windows Firefox uninstaller. Application removal and profile-data removal are separate operations. Delete the Firefox profile folder only if you no longer need its data.
Can I remove only one Firefox profile?
Yes. Firefox Profile Manager lets you select an individual profile. Don’t Delete Files removes it from the manager while retaining its files; Delete Files permanently removes the profile data.
The Bottom Line
For a normal Windows 11 removal, use Settings → Apps → Installed apps → Mozilla Firefox → three dots → Uninstall, then complete the Firefox wizard with Next → Uninstall → Finish. For a complete cleanup, separately delete any leftover installation folder and the Firefox profile data under %APPDATA%MozillaFirefox. Keep that profile folder if you may need your bookmarks, passwords, or settings later.
