To compare prepared deli wings fairly, compare today’s per-pound prices for the same type of cooked wings at the stores you shop. If a package shows only a total price and weight, divide the price by the weight in pounds. Compare bone-in with bone-in and boneless with boneless; don’t compare cooked deli wings directly with raw wings without accounting for cooking loss.
Calculate the price per pound
Use the posted per-pound price when the label provides one. If it doesn’t, use this formula:
Package price ÷ package weight in pounds = price per pound

Make the comparison like for like
Note the store, location, date, product form and preparation alongside each price. Deli wings may be bone-in or boneless, fried or baked, and sold hot or chilled. Those differences can affect what you are comparing. A per-pound shelf label generally compares the weight of the product as sold, not the amount of edible meat.
- Match product form: Compare bone-in with bone-in and boneless with boneless. USDA Agricultural Marketing Service reports these as separate categories for prepared wings. USDA AMS prepared-wing reports.
- Record price context: Distinguish a regular price from an advertised feature price, and record when and where you saw it. Store prices and specials vary.
- Keep the unit consistent: Convert package totals or ounce prices to dollars per pound before comparing.
Use dated market prices as context, not a current quote
USDA AMS weekly reports show how prepared-wing prices can vary by region and reporting week. For the week of March 23, 2026, its conventional prepared fried or baked bone-in wing listings were $7.99–$8.99 per pound in the Northeast and $4.99–$8.99 per pound in the Southeast. These are dated regional retail features, not a universal price or a quote for a particular deli counter. USDA AMS weekly report.

The figures refer to that region, week and product categories; they should not be combined with the later regional ranges as if they were one current national price. USDA AMS weekly report.

Why raw-wing prices are not directly comparable
Raw wings lose weight during cooking, and bone-in wings include bone in their sold weight. So a raw price per pound and a cooked deli price per pound do not represent the same amount of ready-to-eat product. Texas A&M AgriLife Extension cautions that “Comparisons of raw product costs to cooked product costs are not generally valid because of normal yield losses occurring during cooking.” Texas A&M AgriLife Extension chicken-yield guidance.
To compare the cost of edible cooked product, you would need an appropriate yield for the specific product. Texas A&M’s worked examples illustrate the method for the products and yields discussed on that page; they are not a prepared-wing yield estimate. USDA’s Food Buying Guide likewise explains cooked ready-to-serve yield for food-service calculations, but it does not establish a universal yield for prepared deli wings. USDA Food Buying Guide.

When price per pound is not the whole answer
Price per pound compares the weight of what is sold. It does not establish which option provides more edible meat for the money when products differ in bones, coating or preparation. Per-wing price is also a different measure: piece size and count can vary, so it cannot replace a per-pound comparison. If edible-meat value is your goal, compare similar cooked products and use a reliable edible-yield measure; the cited guidance does not provide a specific prepared deli wing yield.
