Neither chip is a universal winner. Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and Apple A16 Bionic have different CPU and GPU configurations, and benchmark results depend on the test, operating system, and phone being measured. Available figures do not establish a controlled, head-to-head performance result. For a buying decision, compare the specific phones—not just their processors—including cooling, battery, display, software, and price.

How the two chips are configured

Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is a Qualcomm mobile platform, while Apple’s A16 Bionic configuration is documented here in the iPhone 14 Pro. That distinction matters: Qualcomm’s platform specifications are not a guarantee of the clocks or thermal behavior in every phone, and Apple’s listed A16 configuration is specifically for that device.

Specification Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Apple A16 Bionic
CPU 64-bit Qualcomm Kryo; up to 3.36 GHz on some versions. Qualcomm also identifies a 3.19 GHz version and says actual device CPU speed varies by platform version and OEM device. Qualcomm specifications Six cores in iPhone 14 Pro: two performance cores and four efficiency cores. Apple iPhone 14 Pro specifications
GPU Adreno GPU; listed APIs include Vulkan 1.3, OpenGL ES 3.2, and OpenCL 2.0 FP. Qualcomm specifications Five-core GPU in iPhone 14 Pro. Apple iPhone 14 Pro specifications
Other listed components X70 5G modem; Qualcomm lists a 4 nm process and Wi-Fi 7 support. Qualcomm specifications 16-core Neural Engine in iPhone 14 Pro. Apple iPhone 14 Pro specifications

What the benchmark numbers do—and do not—show

NanoReview’s comparison page, accessed in 2026, displays AnTuTu 11 scores of 1,757,044 for Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and 1,626,008 for A16 Bionic. Its sample includes 238 Snapdragon tests and 36 A16 tests. The page explicitly cautions: “AnTuTu results from iOS and Android are not directly comparable!” These are values reported by that comparison page, not a controlled result proving a fixed performance advantage. The same page shows a Snapdragon Geekbench 6 single-core score of 2,004 and lists A16 as “n/a” in that displayed table. Because there is no matching A16 figure there, the numbers cannot be treated as a paired comparison. Geekbench results also need the same version and suitable test context to be meaningfully compared; a number from one device or sample is not a universal chip result.

The comparison page also includes user-submitted recent scores and average game-FPS observations associated with a named device. Those are time- and device-specific: the page notes that FPS can vary with game version, operating system, and other factors. They should not be read as timeless guarantees for every phone with either processor.

CPU speed: why one score is not enough

CPU workloads can favor different configurations depending on whether they rely on one core or several. A single-core score cannot answer how a chip handles a multi-threaded task, and a multi-core score does not predict every app’s responsiveness. Compare the same benchmark version, with scores tied to identified devices and test conditions.

Qualcomm lists Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 CPU clocks up to 3.36 GHz on some versions, but also identifies a 3.19 GHz version and directs users to OEM specifications for device CPU speed. Clock speed alone is not a direct measure of real-world speed across different architectures.

GPU performance and gaming

The listed GPU details establish platform capabilities, not which chip will deliver a higher frame rate in a particular game. The Snapdragon platform lists an Adreno GPU and graphics-compute APIs; Apple’s iPhone 14 Pro specification lists a five-core GPU. Neither fact substitutes for a matched game test.

For gaming, look for results from the exact handset and game version you are considering. Cooling design, software, graphics settings, and sustained workload can affect frame rates, so a brief peak score may not represent a long session. The available comparison’s user-submitted FPS observations are device-specific and variable rather than a controlled cross-platform test.

AI, imaging, connectivity, and efficiency

AI and imaging

Apple said at A16’s 2022 launch that its 16-core Neural Engine was capable of nearly 17 trillion operations per second. Apple also described the A16 CPU as “up to 40 percent faster than the competition,” without identifying Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in that quoted comparison. These are Apple’s launch claims, not independent measurements against Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 under a shared workload. The available sources do not establish a controlled comparison of application-level AI or imaging performance between the two chips.

Connectivity

Qualcomm lists an X70 5G modem and Wi-Fi 7 support for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 platform. These platform-level details do not alone settle which phone has better connectivity: handset design, supported bands, regional models, and implementation also matter. The cited Apple specifications describe the iPhone 14 Pro device, so comparing its connectivity with a Snapdragon phone requires checking the exact models and market.

Power use and sustained performance

A process-node label or peak benchmark score does not establish battery life or sustained speed. The available sources do not provide matched battery or sustained-load testing of A16 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 devices. For those outcomes, compare reviews or measurements of the exact phones, under comparable conditions.

Which phone should you choose?

Start with the actual models available to you. A processor name identifies only part of a phone’s performance and value; the device’s cooling, battery capacity, screen, cameras, software support, and price all affect the experience. Apple’s A16 configuration cited here is in iPhone 14 Pro, while Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 appears in OEM phones whose implementation and specifications can differ.

  • Choose by workload: prioritize relevant tests from the apps or games you use, with the benchmark version and handset identified.
  • Choose by device: check the OEM’s specifications for a Snapdragon phone’s clocks and connectivity, plus its battery, display, and cooling details.
  • Choose by ownership needs: weigh software support, camera system, and price alongside performance.
  • Do not decide from an unmatched score: the available figures do not provide a controlled, like-for-like test that establishes one chip as faster overall.
