There is no evidence-based universal winner among OKX, Coinbase, and Kraken: the right comparison depends on your country, the exact product and trading pair, your 30-day activity, and how your orders execute. Compare the same retail spot scenario on all three, then check the custody terms and country eligibility for the specific service you intend to use. Fee schedules and product availability can change; the figures and official pages below were checked on October 7, 2026.
How to compare fees on equal terms
A headline fee is not necessarily the cost you will pay. For a useful comparison, hold the scenario constant: use the same country, spot pair, order size, estimated rolling 30-day volume, and likely execution type. Then compare the trading commission with the price spread and any applicable conversion, funding, deposit, withdrawal, or network charges.
Start with the same product and order flow
Compare retail spot order-book trading with retail spot order-book trading. Do not mix it with derivatives, institutional custody, or an app’s instant or simple-buy flow: each is a different service and may have separate pricing and eligibility. A quoted commission also may not reflect a spread or currency-conversion cost. OKX describes spread as the difference between available buy and sell prices and notes that conversion can apply on top of a trading fee.
Distinguish maker from taker execution
Maker and taker describe what happens when an order executes, not simply whether you chose a limit or market order. An order that rests on the book and adds liquidity can be maker; a limit order that fills immediately can be taker. Partial fills can also produce more than one execution outcome. Check the fee tier and execution details shown for your own account and order.

Include costs beyond commission
For each exchange, check the quoted buy and sell prices, conversion charges if you are switching currencies, and any funding, deposit, withdrawal, or network fee relevant to your transaction. These costs may depend on the payment method, asset, chain, pair, or country. The official schedules cited above do not establish one complete, identical all-in cost for every possible trade, so use the same scenario and the live order preview rather than comparing one exchange’s commission with another’s total purchase price.
How to compare custody without conflating products
“Custody” can refer to ordinary assets held in an exchange account or to a separate custody service for institutional clients. The available disclosures below describe different things; they do not constitute an apples-to-apples assessment of retail account ownership, insurance, or insolvency treatment.

When reviewing any exchange’s terms, identify the contracting legal entity, the product covered, withdrawal conditions, and any disclosed safeguards. Do not treat a reserve report, an insurance statement, and contractual ownership language as interchangeable evidence.
How to check whether a service is available where you live
Availability is a country-by-product question, not a simple brand-level yes or no. An exchange may allow account opening in a location but restrict a particular asset, fiat deposit or withdrawal method, derivatives product, earning feature, or custody service. Local contracting entities and terms can differ as well.

Check the exact service, not just the exchange name
- Confirm that residents of your country can open or maintain the account.
- Check that the asset and trading product you want are available there.
- Verify the fiat deposit and withdrawal rails you plan to use.
- Check derivatives, staking or rewards, and institutional custody separately if relevant.
- Read the terms for the local contracting entity and confirm any restrictions in the product itself.
A license or registration can provide useful context, but it does not by itself prove that a particular customer can use every service. For Coinbase, the cited filing is from 2024; for Kraken, consult its live country-specific page. For all three exchanges, confirm current eligibility with the official service information before relying on availability.

- Choose your scenario. Write down your country, the exact product, trading pair, order size, likely maker or taker execution, and expected rolling 30-day activity.
- Check each exchange’s applicable fee. Use the live fee schedule and, where available, your signed-in fee page or order placement panel. For Coinbase, inspect the fee page and order preview; for OKX, the order placement panel; for Kraken, confirm your tier and product on the fee schedule.
- Compare the effective price. Include the displayed buy or sell price and relevant spread, conversion, funding, deposit, withdrawal, and network costs—not only the trading commission.
- Read the custody terms for the product you will actually use. Identify the legal entity, asset and withdrawal conditions, and what the exchange’s disclosure does and does not say.
- Verify country eligibility feature by feature. Check account access, the asset and fiat rails, the trading product, and any separate custody or earning service you need.
