Compare music-streaming services on the same country, plan type, and household size; then test the albums and recordings you actually want to hear. A bigger advertised catalog or a “Hi-Res” label does not by itself mean a service is better for you—or that your equipment can deliver a difference you will hear.
Start with a fair price comparison
Compare the recurring price for the same country and tier. Record the currency, taxes, whether the rate is promotional, and how many people can use the plan. A family subscription’s total price is not comparable to an individual subscription’s price unless you account for the household it covers.
For the US listings checked on October 4, 2026, Apple Music lists Individual at $11.99 per month, Family at $19.99 for up to six people, and Student at $6.99. Apple says its student plan includes Apple TV access. TIDAL lists Individual at $11.99 per month, Family at $19.99 for up to six members, and DJ at $19.99; TIDAL notes applicable taxes, and its DJ plan requires compatible DJ software. These are listed rates on the providers’ US pages, not a guarantee of the price you will see in another country or at a later date.

Check the catalog against your own listening
Catalog totals indicate scale, not whether a particular service has your version of a particular recording. Apple advertises over 100 million songs; TIDAL advertises over 180 million. Both numbers are provider-published claims, not independent audits, and neither settles whether the albums you care about are available.
Before switching, make a short checklist of must-have artists, albums, and less interchangeable recordings—such as live performances, remasters, explicit or clean editions, and specialist repertoire. Search for those exact versions in each service. For classical music, check whether you can find works by composer, performer, and recording rather than relying only on a general song search. Apple Music includes Apple Music Classical, which Apple describes as offering specialized classical browsing and search; its “world’s largest” characterization is Apple’s own claim.

Understand what audio-quality labels do—and do not—tell you
Lossless compression preserves the audio data while reducing file size; Apple’s description is that it “reduces the original file size of a song while preserving all of the data perfectly.” Lossless is different from lossy compression, which discards some audio information. Higher-resolution lossless describes technical properties of the file, not a guarantee that a listener will hear an improvement.

Apple describes Lossless as up to 48 kHz and Hi-Res Lossless as 48 kHz to 192 kHz. It advertises both lossless audio and Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos. Apple says Hi-Res Lossless requires external equipment such as a USB DAC. Lossless files also use more bandwidth and storage than standard AAC, so downloads can consume more device space and streaming can use more data. Details and availability are on Apple Music.

- Block the World, Keep the Music: Four built-in mics work together to filter out background noise — whether you're in a packed office, on a crowded commute, or moving through a busy street — so every beat comes through clean and clear. (Not available in AUX-in mode.)
- Two Ways to Hear More: BassUp technology delivers deep, punchy bass and crisp highs in wireless mode — then step it up further by plugging in the included AUX cable to unlock Hi‑Res certified audio for studio-level clarity.
- 40 Hours. 5-Minute Top-Up: With ANC on, a single charge keeps you listening through days of commutes and long-haul flights. Running low? Just 5 minutes plugged in gives you 4 more hours — so you're never stuck waiting.
- Two Devices, Zero Hassle: Stay connected to your laptop and phone at the same time. Audio switches automatically to whichever device needs you — so a call never interrupts your flow, and getting back to your playlist is just as easy. Designed for commuters and remote workers who move smoothly between work and personal listening throughout the day.
- Your Sound, Your Rules: The soundcore app puts everything at your fingertips — dials your ideal EQ with presets or build your own, flip between ANC, Normal, and Transparency modes on the fly, or wind down with built-in white noise. One app, total control.
TIDAL
TIDAL describes FLAC as stereo lossless and HiRes FLAC as above 16-bit/44.1 kHz, with files as large as 24-bit/192 kHz. Its Max quality selects the best source available for each track from HiRes FLAC, FLAC, or AAC; the top format is not guaranteed for every recording. TIDAL also lists Dolby Atmos, advises checking DAC support for HiRes FLAC, and recommends wired or Wi-Fi connections for the full experience. See TIDAL Sound Quality.
There is no universal audible ranking established by these format descriptions. Your result depends on whether the particular track is offered in the format, the service’s playback settings, your device and connection, any DAC in the path, and your headphones or speakers. A wireless route or incompatible equipment may prevent a higher-resolution file from reaching your ears as intended. Higher sample rates alone do not establish that one service will sound better to you.

Compare the features that affect everyday use
Audio and price matter only if a service fits your setup and habits. Check whether the app works on your phone, computer, car, speakers, and television, and whether offline listening works on the devices you take away from Wi-Fi. Apple lists support across Apple platforms as well as Android, Windows, Sonos, smart TVs, and other devices, and advertises offline downloads. TIDAL lists ad-free offline listening, personalized mixes, and editorial playlists.

Use a short trial to decide what matters in practice
- Set your comparison conditions. Choose your country, recurring plan tier, household size, and tax treatment. Set aside introductory offers so you are comparing standard recurring rates.
- Build a must-have listening list. Include exact albums and versions, not just artists. Search each service for the same recordings.
- Check playback capability. Confirm the track’s available format and review app quality settings, device support, connection type, and audio equipment. If pursuing Hi-Res Lossless, Apple says a USB DAC or similar external equipment may be required; TIDAL advises checking DAC support.
- Try the same tracks and setup. Where trials are available, use the same headphones or speakers and connection. Keep volume as closely matched as practical, then judge sound alongside catalog fit and interface usability.
- Choose by your priorities. Pay extra only for a feature you will use, such as a larger household allowance, specialist browsing, offline listening, immersive tracks, or DJ integration.
